12731353, Good Makeup | Bad Makeup | No Makeup Posted by Very-Effortless, Thu Feb-19-15 11:24 AM
I was looking at the reaction to those un-retouched Beyonce photos and I'm thinking that people aren't really understanding how bad makeup can make you look worse than no makeup at all.
In my opinion, L'Oreal is pretty bad makeup - their foundation is like $10: it creases like no one's business, leaves your pores hella exposed and doesn't blend well. Normally, I spend around $40 on really good foundation. I'm sure Beyonce doesn't wear L'oreal on a regular basis but they probably put her in it for that particular photoshoot. As someone brought up in that post, even when TMZ and random photographers catch Beyonce off-guard, her skin doesn't look like that on a regular basis.
Hell, I'll even use myself as an example:
This is me wearing my normal $40 foundation: http://instagram.com/p/ygfdI8yqD2/?modal=true Look at that fucking coverage! YAS!
This is me wearing no makeup: http://instagram.com/p/qiYOxASqA5/?modal=true My freckles and pores in all of their glory!
This is me in $20 foundation: http://instagram.com/p/qhbTLayqAA/?modal=true The $20 foundation isn't as cheap as L'oreal but you can still see that my skin looks worse than when I'm wearing no makeup at all. All bumpy, poor coverage, my forehead is super-creased up.
So let's make this a sharing post! Post your good makeup, no makeup, bad makeup pics. Beyonce isn't alone in this shit. #solidarity

While I've given up my membership in the Beyhive, I think people are making too much about how she looks without makeup. She's still a very beautiful woman. I don't wear make up at all...and to be honest, you don't need to either...you are just as beautiful without it.

12731415, makeup is made for pictures Posted by MrThomas43423, Thu Feb-19-15 12:06 PM
at least all that foundation. it can help you picture well, but in the meantime you might be walking around looking like a mannequin. not you personally....but make-up can do that to faces. --------------------------------------- it's true what they say...people are strange, when you're strangers.
not compassionate....only polite.
I am not like you at all and i cannot pretend.
|
12731528, I agree totally. Posted by Very-Effortless, Thu Feb-19-15 01:21 PM
There's definitely a difference between day-time makeup, night-time/ photography makeup.
The $40 foundation I only use when I'm going out at night or know I will take a lot of pics and need to look BEAT.
I never wear makeup during the day. Like at all. Not even mascara.

12731416, it was so cakey. beyonce is beyond beautiful regardless Posted by teefiveten, Thu Feb-19-15 12:08 PM
granted while i get envious of clear skin it's usually on dudes like i KNOW women get blemishes. we just do. we got hormones and makeup and shit
when i see a dude like tpain or pharrell i get mad as shit. skin all clear. fuck them dudes.
honestly i wear little to no makeup. i wear makeup when i'm djing or going on a date or to a party. to work im barefaced (unless there's a work related event or big meeting). i'm barefaced with TONS of freckles and acne scars and small breakouts and all that and i don't care. my mom was really aghast when she realized i don't wear makeup regularly.
i don't wear foundation. i wear NARS tinted moisturizer, apply a sheer MAC powder over that w/ a brush, add some bronzer. done.
then i do some eyeliner on my outer lids and maybe lipstick if i feel like it

12731441, to me no matter how expensive your makeups is Posted by Sha, Thu Feb-19-15 12:25 PM
you can still see blemishes. To me Makeup intensifies blemishes because it gets caught in the cracks and creases. It also depends on the state of your skin. If it's looking puffy and water deprived...it'll show regardless of how much you pay for makeup.

12731521, To me there is a difference in coverage and the frequency of creasing Posted by Very-Effortless, Thu Feb-19-15 01:18 PM
A little tends to go a long way with better foundations because they have a higher percentage of pigment.
cheaper foundations use less pigment so you have to use more to get good coverage and when you lay it on thick, it creases with frequency.
And that sun-soaked pic is the bomb by the way.

12732152, Primer is key to prevent creasing... Posted by ndibs, Thu Feb-19-15 10:30 PM
As is using a powder on top. A translucent one really helps with diffusing light and making wrinkles, creases and imperfections invisible.
|
12732351, primer does not work for me Posted by Sha, Fri Feb-20-15 10:32 AM
especially when you need to use a mattifier. I've found primer makes my skin oilier.
I do however set my face with translucent powder.

12731470, i don't think the price point of the makeup matters that much Posted by ndibs, Thu Feb-19-15 12:44 PM
what matters is your application technique and choosing the best foundation for your skin type.
i don't wear foundation routinely but when i do for example i have a date. i used a clay mask to suck as much stuff as possible out of my pores, then i exfoliate, then i moisturize, then i prime (around the eyes with one thing and then in the t-zone with something else to fill in pores) then i apply my foundation (usually with a sponge or brush), then powder, then a translucent hd powder.
beyonce's skin looks horribly prepped and like she doesn't take good care of it in these pics. maybe it's a post baby breakout / pregnancy hormonal issue, but i kind of have a hard time believeing they are even real.
I might post pictures later. I have a lot of stuff to do.
|
12731504, ^^^ i also find that sponge application is not always the best Posted by Sha, Thu Feb-19-15 01:08 PM
I use a stipple brush that way it can be distributed and not rubbed in. http://www.lovelygood.com/LovelyGoodBlog/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/elf_stipple_2.jpg

12731480, you without makeup >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the rest of that shit Posted by PoppaGeorge, Thu Feb-19-15 12:56 PM
I wish more women were comfortable enough with themselves to go out without makeup.
There's a chick that works at one of the grocery stores nearby. Usually goes to work without a drop of makeup and she's cute as hell, lil freckles and all. I was in her check out line about a month ago when this cat good an in his 60's poured on the compliments about how refreshing it was to see a young lady without makeup and complaining about how most young chicks he sees looks like drag queens or mannequins with the way they do their makeup.
I'm sure he was trying to push up on her sugar daddy-style, but what he said was 100% truth.

I was telling everybody the bar got one, I even told my wife about her... she was that cute and my wife doesn't mind when I tell her about shit like that.
Super Bowl Sunday this young woman shows up looking a hot mess with makeup caked on and pointy cat eyes. She lasted one night.
Everyone looked at me like WTF. I kept repeating "this isn't the same woman"
my wife was like "nigga, do better"

At the absolute most, I *might* put a lil bronzer on. That NARS multi-stick is awesome. But I think I might only use it a handful of times a year.
Last/only time I can remember wearing foundation was for prom way back in high school.

12731782, Aight let me get in this! Lol Posted by ThisIs_ATruthThang, Thu Feb-19-15 03:33 PM
TO me IMO!!! It's all about the brand, your skin type, and how you PREP your skin.
Now, I don't wear liquid foundation period because I don't have to and when I've tried (Laura Mercier) it made my skin breakout. I usually wear a powder or cream coverage and make artist can never tell I don't have on the triple layers. (Concealer, foundation, and powder finish) And I used to work with a lot of top makeup artist.
I don't have the best skin, I get breakouts before my cycle but I prep the hell out of my skin and I moisturize it really well. So it looks good with and without makeup. I have never worn drug store makeup outside of my favorite Covergirl's mascara, Jordana eyeliner, and NYX penicils. Well I'm lying but I've never bought the foundation I'll say. Lol I just figure if I'm going to put it all over my face it's worth some money!
However, I have friends that use high and low makeup and their faces always looks flawless. One of my friends wears only Chanel and her face still looks meh because she doesn't take care of her skin! She offen sleeps in her damn make up too!

12731816, Thank you for your opinion Posted by ThisIs_ATruthThang, Thu Feb-19-15 03:53 PM
However, ladies LIKE me do makeup for fun and for sport. Women who do makeup typically do it for other women, it shows personality and skill. Like being an artist of the face.
I'm a girly girl, if you tell me I can put purple and glitter on my face? I'm going to do it! Now, on another note. I know men don't like the idea of makeup. I get it! But I'm dating several men right now and they think I look pretty hot when I go out with my makeup on. So while they may not like the idea? It's really not hindering me.
And my pic with no makeup was a night that I went out with no makeup. I put it on when I feel like it. I don't lean on my makeup.
I will have times I just don't feel like it and will go natural everything!

12731966, RARELY wear foundation Posted by GirlChild, Thu Feb-19-15 05:46 PM
at most, i'll wear a tinted moisterizer and that's in lieu of foundation and i tend to mix it with a thick moisterizer too.
i mostly wear eyeliner and some kind of chapstick. sometimes i'll wear lipstick. i'm so lazy to put on mascara all the time bc it's a bitch to take off. same with eye shadow, i'm not good at doing cool things with it so its rare that i wear that.
