12726753, 'testing' people's principles with the dropped-money test?
Posted by Deadzombie, Fri Feb-13-15 11:04 AM
when meeting someone new, and for whatever reason you're on the fence about the 'type' of person they are, how likely are you to put it to the test by 'accidentally' dropping a $20 bill and seeing if they give it back to you.

i got a buddy who is a contractor. he hires and fires his crew based on the $20 test.

he accidentally drops the bill, walks by and back around. if the guy(s) doesn't get his attention, and try to return it - he fires the guy the following week.

he's fired three people with this test. two black on mexican.

i thought the shit was genius and could be applied to so many things people and situations.

what do you think of his behavior? is it a set-up?

are his morals fucked up for testing people like this?

im still on the fence. what do you think?
12726758, Do they see him drop it? If so yeah that's good
Posted by Binlahab, Fri Feb-13-15 11:06 AM
If they don't see him drop it and it could be considered anyone's then no it's not

does it really matter?

wonder what bin's doing?

12726762, and this is the problem with the test
Posted by John Forte, Fri Feb-13-15 11:08 AM
It would have to be more overt like leaving it in the chair he was sitting in, or right on the table or desk.
12726772, money on the table or desk is up for grabs. they're usually on a site.
Posted by Deadzombie, Fri Feb-13-15 11:13 AM
12726770, they see him drop it. he showed me the move. it's believable.
Posted by Deadzombie, Fri Feb-13-15 11:12 AM
he hurriedly walks past the man and puts the hand in and out of the pocket while letting the bill fall as he passes.

some real magician man-shit, but the shit was believable.
12726774, i don't know how he's able to tell for certain the person sees.
Posted by Cenario, Fri Feb-13-15 11:15 AM
unless its being recorded.

12726773, That's some paranoid shit to do. Sounds like homey has issues.
Posted by 8-bit, Fri Feb-13-15 11:15 AM
If he has to go around plotting ways to "test" people, then dude is the one with trust issues. Like someone else said, dude assumes that people actually saw him drop the $20, but everyone isn't paying attention like that. He might have fired someone that just saw a $20 on the ground and had no idea where it came from.
12726775, pretty much...i already know not to drop a $20 around THAT dude
Posted by Cenario, Fri Feb-13-15 11:15 AM
.
12726782, i agree. but it's not really crime to not have faith in people.
Posted by Deadzombie, Fri Feb-13-15 11:18 AM
and contract work is full of suspect characters.

so you gotta keep them on point.

how do you propose people principle-check a stranger they have to work with?

you have a lot of faith in people?
12726786, I don't think you can principle check strangers like that.
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Fri Feb-13-15 11:23 AM
Run a background check. If they pass that, what more can you do.

I mean is dude firing people that actually work with money?

12726801, You can only trust so much someone you picked up from home depot.

12726821, lol i was about to say, who is stealing $20 at work at anyway
Posted by Cenario, Fri Feb-13-15 11:47 AM
12726822, but it's not quite a steal. it's a character test.
Posted by Deadzombie, Fri Feb-13-15 11:49 AM

12726835, It's more like a stupidity / desperation test
Posted by ndibs, Fri Feb-13-15 11:57 AM
The crook will give the money back smoke in your face and steal thousands of equity from you or have a team rob your house. I'm convinced most burglaries are ppl that are "friends".
12726855, there are different levels to stealing.
Posted by Cenario, Fri Feb-13-15 12:22 PM
12726788, I'd be looking for a new job if I found out my boss did that
Posted by 8-bit, Fri Feb-13-15 11:24 AM
Test me by evaluating my work. Period.
12726794, pretty much. Potential employees prolly wanna run a principle test on the
Posted by Cenario, Fri Feb-13-15 11:27 AM
boss lol
12726797, whats the issue if you'd get his attention and give the money?
Posted by Deadzombie, Fri Feb-13-15 11:30 AM
and you was hanging out in a parking lot all day waiting to get picked up for a job.

im thinking times is kinda hard for you and based on the test, you gonna leave the site?
12726826, I might not notice. Is it my job to sit and watch the boss?
Posted by ndibs, Fri Feb-13-15 11:52 AM
Or work. Is it a secure room or site? No wind no other people?
12726831, no foul for not noticing. the only foul is picking up the money
Posted by Deadzombie, Fri Feb-13-15 11:54 AM
without telling him.

it could be just them two on the specific site.

indoors, no wind.

empty home.
12726837, if i found a $20 on a floor in an empty home with me and another dude
Posted by Cenario, Fri Feb-13-15 11:58 AM
working there all day i wouldn't even assume it was his. At the same time, it wouldn't necessarily be that big of a deal. I might mention to the dude i found a $20 and i might stuff it in my pocket and forget about it.

Point being there are so many variables involved for thaat to be the reason you fire someone.
12726800, plus, your work may be great, but you're stealing supplies and
Posted by Deadzombie, Fri Feb-13-15 11:32 AM
building yourself an addition to your own house with them.

that's not okay.
12726827, Then he can do his job as a boss and regularly check the inventory
Posted by 8-bit, Fri Feb-13-15 11:52 AM
I just have no other way to explain why I think intentionally "testing" someone just shows that the person doing the testing has a lack of trust.

I could see if I worked for the CIA or FBI, but a contract job doing some sort of labor? Nah. Dude has issues. The type to give their kids a lie detector test, or have some dude holler at his wife just to see how she responds.
12726832, hmm. wife testing. interesting.
Posted by Deadzombie, Fri Feb-13-15 11:55 AM
12727034, lmao you seen that movie extract?

12726842, No different then Zappos alleged hiring practice
Posted by Atillah Moor, Fri Feb-13-15 12:04 PM
They drive you to the interview site in a hired car. Later the boss or whoever asks the driver how they were treated by the potential employee-- if the driver says they were treated poorly then dude or dudette doesn't get the gig.
12726871, actually that's understandable and not as fucked up as this...
Posted by StephBMore, Fri Feb-13-15 12:40 PM
its'also not prone to as many mistakes or mishaps.

With the zappos hiring thing, they are judging how you'd treat potential customers/business by how you test other strangers you don't know...i see no issue with this.

but with dropping money...unless he sees them see him drop the money, and then he sees them take the money...how can he assume that they took it and were dishonest? someone else might have been around, saw it and took it. Maybe the person thought it was paper, maybe the person doesn't have sharp eyesight...it's so many factors on how this is fucked up.

not comparable to zappos at all.
12726889, thats basic stuff, like asking a receptionist how you treated them, their
Posted by Cenario, Fri Feb-13-15 12:51 PM
opinion etc...unless they tell the driver to do extra stuff to see how you respond.
12726986, Good point
Posted by Atillah Moor, Fri Feb-13-15 01:55 PM
12726811, fuck that guy...
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Feb-13-15 11:41 AM
12726823, you'd keep the money, too?
Posted by Deadzombie, Fri Feb-13-15 11:49 AM
12726914, if I don't see him drop it... yup
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Feb-13-15 01:04 PM
I sat next to a girl on the chinatown bus to NYC and she left her purse. I hopped off the bus and waved her down because I would hate for that shit to happen to me.

12726925, NYPD are douchebags. This shit is doesn't even seem legal
Posted by 8-bit, Fri Feb-13-15 01:13 PM
Folks literally FINDING a bag on the ground (no person around) and before they can even walk off with it (to, you know, maybe call some of the numbers on the phone, or google the name on the license) they lock them up.
12726880, sounds like a maniac...wouldn't want to work for someone like this
Posted by gumz, Fri Feb-13-15 12:46 PM
i don't have time for all those mind games
12726897, dude probably makes one hell of a bf/husband
