12725965, Put an OKP onto good food in your city. Posted by Mongo, Thu Feb-12-15 01:10 PM
It doesn't have to be fancy.
Like Kati Junction at 40th between Seventh and Eighth.
Get the chicken tikka masala w/ egg roll, a pistachio lassi, and wander into Midtown Comic one storefront over, or the Drama Bookstore a little further down.
Thank me later.
Now you.

12726030, Tacos in Pittsburgh Posted by John Forte, Thu Feb-12-15 02:03 PM
Las Palmas, a Mexican grocery store on a side street in Oakland has a stand that makes PHENOMENAL tacos. I get them most Saturday afternoons. We've taken friends visiting from out of town, and they're usually floored (of course we don't take Chicago friends).

12726732, Omaha Posted by Nodima, Fri Feb-13-15 10:42 AM
Lot 2, French Bulldog: wines, cheeses, pork belly sandwiches. French Bulldog specifically cures their own meats and all of them are fucking succulent as a tit. Lot 2 changes their menu seasonally but right now they do a Salmon burger that's just as dope as a regular burger.
http://lot2benson.com http://frenchbulldogomaha.com
La Buvette: more for the atmosphere than the food in my opinion, but so many people swear by it.
http://labuvetteomaha.com
Block 16: Three seemingly steroid-infused pieces of chicken and a side of fries for $4.25. Cheaper than fast food chicken, twice as filling and locally sourced. They also started a pretty funny series of Youtube videos having head chefs around town read mean Yelp reviews ala Jimmy Kimmel.
http://block16omaha.com
Mula: California street-style tacos in an upscale atmosphere. $2.50 a taco (you generally want three to five though) plus a ton of great tequila drinks and a $3 shot that's always quality like Espolon or Tres Agaves in your choice of blanco or reposado.
http://mulaomaha.com
Lisa's Radial Cafe: When you've gotta have breakfast, this is my favorite diner I've ever been to. 11-Worth Cafe is better if you want the trucker, down on your luck sort of vibe, but at Lisa's I love to order two or three things with their massive french toast and make my own custom sandwich out of them. And you know you have a great diner when their "website" is just their urban spoon page.
http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/248/1152021/restaurant/Midtown/Lisas-Radial-Cafe-Omaha
Nite Owl: Primarily a bar but their Korean-style wings (10 pieces for $10) may just be the best fucking wings outside of a major BBQ town, and they serve right up until 2:00AM.
http://www.niteowlomaha.com
Avoli Osteria: Italian spot on the higher end of things (not that you'd know from their web design which is surprisingly outdated compared to most sites from the city) but just about every entree is served big enough for two people, the problem is they're prepared delicious enough for half a person.

12727720, Baltimore: Windsor Inn Crab House Posted by Castro, Sat Feb-14-15 10:20 PM
Is it hood? You betta believe it.
Is it worth navigating for the food? You best believe that too.
I'm spoiled because I can literally walk to Koko's Pub from my house...but Wifey is from the West Side, and she swears by Windsor Inn. Crab Cakes are ridiculous. If you from out of town though, just be sensible and its worth the trip.

12727722, Baltimore: Hip Hop Chicken and Fish (LOL) Posted by Castro, Sat Feb-14-15 10:29 PM
Yes, that is the name. No its not Black owned or operated.
Is the chicken good? According to the folks that came to my party in January, who cleaned out a whole tray of this bird in like 15 minutes, "Its that Crack!"
They put sugar on the chicken after it comes out of the fryer.
I wouldn't be surprised to find out years later that its an experiment being conducted by Johns Hopkins.
But yeah, its here and folks eat it like its going extinct.

Best ramen I've had since moving to Kyoto, nothing fancy, just a nice casual sit down restaurant featuring amazing ramen, fried rice and chicken karaage (fried chicken). Usually ginger and or garlic are mixed in the breading before the chicken is fried..great stuff! Few pics
ramen (including braised pork, bamboo shoots, chrysanthemum leaf)

I need something exotic like an extinct animal.
|
12727941, RE: What about eel? Posted by neuro_OSX, Sun Feb-15-15 09:02 PM
Yes, I've had eel as well, though its so common I don't think of it as exotic. The eel was roasted and coated in a soy, sugar sauce, was pretty good, though I'm not crazy about it. Tastes like white fish, not much of a taste really.
The poison blow fish left my lips and tongue tingling a bit, I thought I'd been poisoned.. SMH
