12723700, The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan Posted by b.Touch, Tue Feb-10-15 02:22 PM
Hanna-Barbera taking the infamous racist yellowface "Charlie Chan" character from the 1930s, making him an actual Asian (with an actual Asian, Keye Luke, doing the voice), and plopping him into a then-modern day (1972) Scooby-Doo mystery solving format with a gang of Chan kids.
Oh, did I mention they're also in a rock band?
Incidentally, the kids' voices were originally cast with young Asian actors as well, but the network complained that their dialogue "couldn't be understood", so they were replaced early in the series run with mostly white kids.
I will also say part of my childhood died when I caught my favorite Thundarr episode on TV again in my teens, and was baffled by how wack it looked.
12723904, Yeah, some of these I'm not sure about... Posted by Marbles, Tue Feb-10-15 03:57 PM
I agree with you that "everybody" knows Thundarr. But "everybody" is probably every kid who was between 5-10 years old in the early 80s. It didn't have a lot of toys, t-shirts or other merchandise like some of the bigger cartoons (GI Joe, Transformers, He-Man, even MASK & Gobots). Outside of that age group, I doubt many people know Thundarr.
But to us, you're right. It's not really obscure.
>I will also say part of my childhood died when I caught my >favorite Thundarr episode on TV again in my teens, and was >baffled by how wack it looked.
Man, I would love to catch an episode of this right now. Kids these days would *roast* us for that.

12725089, 1977, it was the co-anchor of a block on ABC: Posted by b.Touch, Wed Feb-11-15 02:29 PM
Scooby's All-Star Laff-a-Lympics
No guesses as to the other anchor of this program, which also included Dyomutt and Captain Caveman as well to round out the two hours (one hour in 1978-79). Laff-a-Lympics later became its own show in 1980, and the older episodes were reedited into a solo show for syndication.
Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson and Wayne Gretzky fought hi-tech world domination plots with sport related weaponry.
They showed up to give live action advice at the end of every episode, except Mike who couldn't be bothered. So he just dunked a ball and said "Don't worry, Prostars are on the case."
