12723331, The rent is $3,000 for three BR/Bath. How do we divide it?
Posted by lightworks, Tue Feb-10-15 12:08 PM
I'm in the master bedroom with an attached bathroom.

Other two bedrooms share a wall, middle size bedroom has a bathroom attached too, smallest bedroom uses the hall bathroom as her own.

Obviously I should pay the most.

But before the rent was gonna be $3200 and we worked it to basically 988, 1070, and 1175 plus or minus a few cents.

We found out the rent was $200 cheaper so at first we were all "great that's $70 less each"

But I did the math and that's more than $3,000.

Help yo
12723352, why not $1000 each?
Posted by luminous, Tue Feb-10-15 12:12 PM
12723367, Well that's not fair since I have master bath and bedroom
Posted by lightworks, Tue Feb-10-15 12:17 PM
I would be heated if I paid the same as the girl in the master bedroom and I was sharing a wall with my other roomate
12723423, Cool
Posted by luminous, Tue Feb-10-15 12:40 PM
i've always just split it equally no matter the room size.

but if your room is that much bigger than the rest you can split it up by square footage and pay that way.
12723432, Actually it's not that much bigger to be honest.
Posted by lightworks, Tue Feb-10-15 12:47 PM
It is a little bigger but other 2 roomates share a wall and one doesn't have a bathro attached which is why I am not even gonna bring up the equal split lol

I sure wouldn't go for it lol

should split the drop evenly I guess
-66 apiece
12723402, It was hurting my head that's why I asked yall for help LOL
Posted by lightworks, Tue Feb-10-15 12:29 PM
12723356, Get a square foot price for the bedrooms
Posted by Binlahab, Tue Feb-10-15 12:14 PM
And split the common areas by 3

So if the sq ft rent is say $10 per, multiply by your larger room and bathroom, they do the same for their individual bedrooms, sit their bath in two and y'all sit the general areas by 3

Add it up...voila

does it really matter?

wonder what bin's doing?

Posted by Marbles, Tue Feb-10-15 12:20 PM

That's $198. Then you can haggle over those last $2
12723406, Added up it equals $3035.
Posted by lightworks, Tue Feb-10-15 12:33 PM
Paying the rental company $35 extra a month isn't really a big deal I juat figured hey they didn't want to do it.
12723527, Ok, subtract 77.66 from each person's set amount.

12723869, lol the roommate's dad is gonna recalculate it based on whstever
Posted by lightworks, Tue Feb-10-15 03:26 PM
He did to get he numbers before

I assume it's similar to what the person in this thread did to break the numbers down

Like each share is around 30%, with mine being the most
12723437, you dont. fuck you doing having roommates as a grown up?

Totally joking fyi
12723470, Just drop the rent for each proportionally to what you agreed to before
Posted by nipsey, Tue Feb-10-15 01:05 PM
Original:

$988
$1070
$1175

Equals $3233

So (Approximates Below)

$988 = 31% of $3233
$1070 = 33% of $3233
$1175 = 36% of $3233

Just multiply those percentages times the new rent of $3000 to get everyone's NEW share.

$930
$990
$1080

There you go.

The roommate said we should recalculate using the methodology and then figure the split.

That's fair.

Again I never thought it would be totally equal since I have the master bedroom

$3K a month out here will rent a 3000+ sq/ft HOUSE with a pool and would pay your monthly utilities with plenty of change to spare.

Me and my fiancé share a place in a nice area. Two bedrooms, one bath, plus a parking spot and we pay around 1100 a piece. Additionally the two months they gave us rent free.

So that's less than either of us were paying solo.

I'm getting career fast tracked, she's able to expand her work.

So those things that may take a decade elsewhere are happening in a small set of years for us.

12723658, wage requirements??? tha hell is that???
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Tue Feb-10-15 02:11 PM
>And if you do you'll probably make too much money do to wage
>requirements.

This is a very foreign concept to me. There hasn't been a single place I've lived in that had such an absurd requirement.

You can't live here because you can REALLY afford it??? FOH.

There were some apartments that I really liked. But if you made more than 35k you couldn't live there.
I imagine people find ways to get around this and that also these properties get government subsidies in some form.

I thought the wage ceiling was oppressively low, but that's on me, and I'm not gonna be one to complain about making "too much money".
12723958, not even a studio apt? smh...

12724228, I mean... you can cop two bedrooms in Scottsdale for $1000/month
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Tue Feb-10-15 08:34 PM
I can't wrap my head around wanting to live somewhere that damned expensive.

I can think of a few cities across the US where $1000 a month would net you a 3 bedroom apartment in a decent part of town.

Posted by MEAT, Wed Feb-11-15 09:21 AM
And how much is your career subject to the whims of your current company in Scottsdale would be my retort.
12724975, I guess it's the beauty of working in tech
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Wed Feb-11-15 01:24 PM
there are IT jobs all across the country. Being in my profession I get hit up for jobs/contracts everywhere imaginable so working in Scottsdale is not abnormal in the least bit.

As for who would I date? Someone from the surrounding area. There's a shitload of transplants in metro Phoenix along with locals of many races, ethnicities, and sexual orientations. The chances of finding someone suitable to date out there is definitely stacked in your favor.
12723592, To be fair, DC is a GREAT launching point for transitioning to "adulthood"
Posted by MEAT, Tue Feb-10-15 01:50 PM
I'd say in some respects unparalleled for most professionals.
For the arts, NY is probably where it's at; for tech the West Coast.
But for lawyers, contractors, politics (obviously), government, military ... etc career building (which includes but not limited to establishing a high salary floor, networking, building government rank) DC is nearly untouchable.
I probably won't stay here too long, but for this phase in life, for a lot of professionals; it's hard to top DC
12723829, all that makes sense..
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Feb-10-15 03:10 PM
but if a person is spinning wheels are just floating in the wind??? nah, couldn't do it.
12723867, Yeah no way I'd have stayed for shits and giggles.
Posted by MEAT, Tue Feb-10-15 03:24 PM
Too damn expensive and not really that "cool".
There's more affordable and better options for recreational living near by ish.
Baltimore, Richmond, parts of Delaware, Philly ... all seem much cooler for personal life than here.

That said, I met a great woman, enjoyed solid women, have made good friends and associates, and jump started my career.

Another place in life, I wouldn't spend here.
12723586, so the conflict is that
Posted by JellyBean, Tue Feb-10-15 01:47 PM
you feel like you should pay more because they share a wall and you have the bigger bedroom? How did you wind up getting the master bedroom?

if y'all don't split that shit evenly! Your guest cannot use the "public" bathroom have them use YOUR bathroom and so on.
12723603, I don't think there is conflict, I think she just can't do math.
