12722263, Woe is the man/woman who can't eat hot sauce
Posted by initiationofplato, Mon Feb-09-15 12:59 PM
I love pepper sauce. When I say pepper sauce, I am talking about the real Trini style sauce made from moruga scorpion peppers. Nothing has as much flavor and bite.

There is only one problem. I can't eat it anymore. My love for pepper sauce, fine craft beers, and meat has destroyed my stomach lining. A warning to the wise, moderate your use of spice, alcohol, and caffeine, because it eventually catches up with you and takes a toll on your health.

The earliest sign that your stomach is damaged is constant gas or a lot of gas after consuming a meal, gurgling, followed by intense/painful acid re-flux, and horrible bathroom experiences.

I am convinced now that most of the health problems in the west are a direct result of our poor diets. We are over stimulated, over fed, and as a result our bodies are over worked and tire quickly.

These days I follow a mainly vegan diet, not by choice, but by necessity, with the occasional serving of cheese, eggs, and wild fish.

I had a late night bowl of cereal last night and I feel like poo today. Feels like Allergies. I think I am noticing a pattern of consistently feeling like this after drinking milk. Is it possible?

12722296, Yup, definitely possible.

Depends on the quality of your milk as well. As we get older, we can develop allergies and an intolerance to a number of things, and its mostly due to a result of over eating and over stimulation in our younger years.

Trying to stunt & out-stunt, eating peppers fresh out the garden, only using "hotter than hot" sauces.
12722503, I'm happy it hit me early enough to treat.
Posted by initiationofplato, Mon Feb-09-15 03:27 PM
If this hit me in my 50s or 60s, it would have been a completely different and more tragic scenario. I didn't even stop for a moment to consider that I have been pumping my stomach full of acid for years.
12722497, thought this was about that Red Devil shite. Yeah, peppa sauce--

(T&T, Bajan style) is everything.

I use copious amounts on my food w/ no fucks given.
12722506, That's what I used to do.

Right until it burned my stomach lining away, lol.

Trust me, slow down. We're not made of metal inside.

either hot sauce or my homemade hot vinegar goes on damned near everything I eat. In my 40's and still goin strong with the hot shits.

You gotta think... The folks in SE Asia eat hot shit all the time until the day they die. You got old folks in their 90's/100's eatin' shit that would be ungodly hot to us in this hemisphere.

Hmm, the hot vinegar sounds good. Wish I could eat it, but alas. Man, just take care of your stomach, I honestly wouldn't wish these kind of issues on anyone.
12722749, yeah i wanna know the deal with this

ended up in A&E (that's ER to you americans) for this reason. got medication now in case i want to indulge, but i just regulate my diet most of the time, unlike most of my family who are either sick or medicated all the time :(
12722772, its ironically a good thing

it helps you wake up to your own body. Diet is the key to good health and I took my body for granted in the past. Suddenly I find myself taking a step back and reconsidering everything before I eat or drink it. My basic rule of thumb is that if it looks like plastic, its not food, and that's about 70% of the choices available to us at any given time.

I went through a crazy year or so (14 hr days at work, multiple happy hours a week, etc) where my existing reflux/ulcer issues got really bad and it wasn't until I made my health a priority that I was able to overcome it.

It turned out I had excessive H Pylori but I couldn't take the medicine for it. Luckily I was able to pay attention to my body and modify my lifestyle enough to get it under control. If I let my lifestyle get out of balance, my body will revolt so now that's a natural motivator to stay fit, watch what I consume and not take life too seriously.

I can still eat everything you've mentioned but now I'm fully aware of the impact it will have on me. In the past I just accepted feeling shitty occasionally as being normal. As I started to "hack" my diet I was able to associate certain foods with certain reactions in my body and determine what I could eat in moderation and what I needed to avoid altogether.

12723091, This is where I'm at now.

I'm currently in the middle of this process. At first I didn't take my diagnosis seriously and continued drinking wine, etc. but have since stopped everything as it got progressively worse. I'm basically testing the waters as far as what I can eat but it seems a raw mostly vegetable diet is the best I can do at the moment. I used to love food and eating, and now I find the whole process to be a chore I don't really want to involve myself in. Funny how health can change perspective so drastically and quickly. I almost wish I didn't have to eat and have begun looking if its possible to supplement only but I know that not is not feasible, wish it was though.

Good to hear that you overcame your issues. Definitely will make a huge difference in the latter years of your life.
