She wants this kind of spotlight (the Selma spot), but won't make music on this level.
Why? Because she doesn't wanna risk that pop stardom. But what is that pop stardom
that she doesn't wanna risk? It's white validation. That's all pop has ever been.
Look back to the first consistent crossover artist in Sam Cooke. He knew how to appeal
to white folks, but when shit got REAL? Sam decided to make REAL music (A Change Is Gonna Come).
That was not a hit... but you know the legend of the song. Beyonce won't take that kind
of risk, but she wants the image that comes with it. You see what I'm saying?
She'd rather coon for white folks than do something real... but then try to weasel her
way into something meaningful. Just do something meaningful.
She's being the good negro, walking the line. It ain't respectable, imo, ESPECIALLY if
you gonna do something like this.
