at a BBQ that wasn't about the war (cause I knew how they felt) but the fact that they felt 100% in their bones America was a force of good in the world, and these weren't necessarily Fox News republicans.

But it's interesting when in textbooks slavery is less about black folks but how great Lincoln was for abolishing it. Or Jim Crow was more about how great MLK was, lol. Or the Native massacres were always about the military skirmish angle as opposed to us committing genocide.

Which leads everyone to having an understanding of American history, even the bad parts, but a FUCKED up way of looking at it
