12720163, black ppl & money: tax refund edition
Posted by Binlahab, Fri Feb-06-15 05:44 AM
now i know this may happen to OTHER ethnicities or cultures

but im not talking abt them right now. im talking abt US.

im seeing the lil before/after taxes vines & memes & thats really cute & LOL worthy (not) because its based on some real shit.

ie people get a tax refund &
a) go nuts
b) think thats good

ok...i love yall. i swear i love my people like i love weed

(sidebar: i have never used or taken or in ANY way abused ANY illegal narcotic or substance ever in life, dont know shit abt it or anything else this is for internet purposes ONLY)

but PLEASE please please PLEASE stop this.

unless you got kids or pay a mortgage (for that good mortgage deduction)

you SHOULDN'T be getting a damn tax refund! That means you gave the govt a interest free loan for the whole previous year! they aint GIVING you any money! they are repaying what you gave THEM!

and instead of saving that...or investing it or in SOME way making it work for you

if you spend it on bullshit...

*shakes fist in anger & impotence @ the sky*

DONT DO THAT SHIT!

please.

recongifure your lil W2 or whatever & get your taxes straight throughout the year. the optimal goal is when its tax time...you dont owe them...they dont owe you. everybody is straight.

please.

please stop doing this.

does it really matter?

wonder what bin's doing?

Yea its all smoke and mirrors, folk should properly configure their W2s and be dropping an extra hundred plus (minimum) in their savings account every month, but ya know.. shrug
12720179, thanks Suze Orman.

but i'm good. i like giving the gov't an interest free loan and getting a big chunk of change at this time of year. i use it to buy some big ticket item or go on a trip. along w/paying bills.

it's fun. i'll keep doing it.

don't forget about tax credits though. not all refunds are from improperly balanced deduction schedules.
12720219, as a father of 2 w/ a mortgage & student loans
Posted by Binlahab, Fri Feb-06-15 09:08 AM
im SOO not forgetting that

but if you have no kids...no mortgage...no student loans...& ARE getting a refund...youre fucking up.

12720235, this is hella low on the black financial priority list
Posted by southphillyman, Fri Feb-06-15 09:14 AM
the people who get the MOST from their tax return and really party off it typically aren't overpaying
the people who barely notice their tax return and still over pay probably aren't sweating it as they likely know + have currently have retirement funds/investments
if it's <$1000 it's not that deep and may be worth the psychological benefits
12720273, Yeah its low but its currently tax season, so its valid.

12720262, I always get a refund but it's a low amount...
Posted by StephBMore, Fri Feb-06-15 09:31 AM
combined, I hardly break $500. This year is the first year I'm getting a larger amount and it's because my student loans were upped last year by $70 a month so now, I pay more a month. (i'm income based). The interest I paid was almost double I normally pay. I doubt I will account for that moving forward because it's such a tricky thing. not really trying to get less money throughout the year right now anyway.
12720266, lol @ your sig especially in this post.
Posted by earthseed, Fri Feb-06-15 09:35 AM
i agree. the student loan thing is tricky
what i get back is nominal
i'd rather keep it the way it is for now.
12720268, ps: when i get mine i literally am buying jordans & weed.
Posted by Binlahab, Fri Feb-06-15 09:38 AM

12720272, Man you're right as hell because I get money back every year.
Posted by Binladen, Fri Feb-06-15 09:42 AM
only like $1100 but I still probably need to reconfigure my w2's.
12720348, Interest rate is like 0.05% right now...
Posted by PimpTrickGangstaClik, Fri Feb-06-15 10:43 AM
They aren't missing out on much by letting the govt hold it for free
12720362, Just a bit of clarification folks
Posted by DaHeathenOne76, Fri Feb-06-15 10:53 AM
W-2 is what you get at the end of the year that details your withholding

W-4 is what you give your employer to tell HOW much to withhold

Unless you have a lock in letter from the IRS you can change your w-4 as much as you like. Your payroll person will hate you for it but its your right.

Why dont yall let a non refund getter hold a couple of dollars tho?
