do you really honestly think the YT powers that be would ever in a million years consider awarding them an actual ship?? Lmao please, better learn to eat just one.

12720093, I was afraid to ask this question. Posted by Joe Corn Mo, Thu Feb-05-15 10:31 PM
I feared the answer was obvious. Players get rings when they win championships, right?
I've wondered, silently, if they also get some kind of chip.

12720123, Fuck all that noise you talking, it's chip Posted by Kira, Fri Feb-06-15 12:00 AM
Lawyers love stretching stuff out. It depends on the context. People say championship trophy and the team won the chip.
|
12720124, it's taking the first two letters and the last two letters Posted by KosherSam, Fri Feb-06-15 12:02 AM
CHampionshIP
|
12720178, i want that to be true but i don't think it is. Posted by SoWhat, Fri Feb-06-15 07:22 AM
b/c i do hear ppl say 'championchip' too often. so i'm not sure 'chip' is always a shortened version of 'championship'.
|
12720222, The only people I've heard say championchip are old dudes at the barber Posted by soulfunk, Fri Feb-06-15 09:10 AM
shop (just because that's how some of them pronounce that sound), and those old dudes aren't also calling them "chips". I don't think there's any correlation there.
Chip just comes from the first two letters and the last two letters, and is just a way to abbreviate it easily. "Ship" isn't as descriptive. That could be anything - membership, ownership, relationship, dealership, etc.
|
12720224, i hear younger ppl say it too. Posted by SoWhat, Fri Feb-06-15 09:11 AM
|
12720296, lol i've never heard anybody say championchip. Posted by Cenario, Fri Feb-06-15 10:00 AM

12720218, haha, you crack me up Posted by KiloMcG, Fri Feb-06-15 09:08 AM
|
12720216, lol, never heard championchip in my life Posted by MiracleRic, Fri Feb-06-15 09:04 AM
i always assumed it was the first 2 and last 2 letters
also once thought it was related to "blue chip" somehow but i got no reasonable explanation for that mental association
|
12720228, i wish i hadn't ever heard it. Posted by SoWhat, Fri Feb-06-15 09:12 AM
it makes me cringe a bit. which is why 'chip' is a pet peeve.
|
12720230, i think i say and hear championchip way more than ship Posted by KiloMcG, Fri Feb-06-15 09:13 AM
yes, i spell it championship, but really say championchip. and definitely say won the chip.
i have thought about that, like sowhat, but didn't ponder it too deeply. i chalked it up to CHampionshIP, and also because it's usually pronounced championchip. not necessarily a real hard CH, more of a "sch" sound. i dunno.
|
12720337, seems like they are so close that it would be hard to tell the dif Posted by mikediggz, Fri Feb-06-15 10:39 AM
btwn championship vs championchip ...seems like youd have to listen really really closely to really tell the difference

12720447, I pronounce the word "champion-CHIP" Posted by 8-bit, Fri Feb-06-15 11:43 AM
Of course I don't spell it that way, but I do pronounce it with two hard "ch" sounds. I'm sure many other sports people do to. It just got shortened.
"chip" is short for a title also. Have heard people using that term for years.
This is sports talk man. We don't give a fuck about all those language rules and shit here. That's for non-athletes.
|
12720495, i can scratch my balls and spit in public with the best of them, man. Posted by SoWhat, Fri Feb-06-15 11:57 AM
i'm hip.
still, this 'chip' nonsense irks me. mostly b/c i believe the origin is in the mispronunciation of 'championship' and not a contracting of 'championship' as some claim.
|
12720577, wait... you actually say championCHIP? dafuck...lol Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Feb-06-15 12:48 PM
that sounds horrible..
I just tried to say it and it feels like work.
|
12720608, Yeah, lol. Just said it out loud and it's like two words put together Posted by 8-bit, Fri Feb-06-15 01:12 PM
Champion-chip.
Didn't know people actually tried to make the "sh" sound, lol. That sounds weird as fuck to me.

12720568, RE: The word is championSHIP. Posted by cchrono, Fri Feb-06-15 12:41 PM
I always thought of it like stacking chips in poker. The goal is to get all the chips and you are the champion.

12720582, i do believe thats how Sheed intended it as well nm Posted by cgonz00cc, Fri Feb-06-15 12:49 PM

12720612, Has anyone ever tried to pronounce "street" without the "sh" sound? Posted by 8-bit, Fri Feb-06-15 01:15 PM
Yeah. English word spelling just doesn't match the pronunciation more often than not it seems.
|
12720621, da hell??? Posted by PoppaGeorge, Fri Feb-06-15 01:24 PM
I never pronounce it with an "sh" sound. What manner of niggatry is this???
