Posted by John Forte, Thu Feb-05-15 02:40 PM
Most of the shitty movies we love are a part of our childhood. We didn't know any better, but there's that rare movie you watch as an adult that makes you say, "this is a piece of rancid trash, and I fux wit it". Whatchu got?

12719812, i'm glad you think so

it far surpassed my very low expectations. here is why i included it in this post:

12719830, Rotten Tomatoes gave Indiana Jones 4 a 78%.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Feb-05-15 03:40 PM
And it was higher at the time when it came out.

Rotten Tomatoes isn't a terrific arbiter of quality.

I get what you're saying though. I guess I'm taking umbrage in this post with calling these movies "shitty." Most of them are doing exactly what they meant to do: entertain. If it was called "poorly received movies that you loved," I'd probably find the post to be a little less odd.

i agree with you, although in this case i am in the minority with really liking indy 4, at least the time i saw it when it came out.

that was just a quick copy and paste. i don't even use rotten tomatoes. i've been seeing good burger referred to as one of the worst movies of all time since it came out. i put it in a category of films i have to check out and see for myself whether it's true. that it was an entertaining, hilarious, and visually spectacular movie dangerously close to my tastes was a complete surprise.
12720018, Please tell me who called Good Burger a WOAT candidate.

there you go making excuses, yet when it comes to certain movies you get hyper critical, but if hey, they were meant to be fun or ironic, then hey, entertainment. nope.

black snake moan is shitty. state prop movies are shitty. shottas is shitty, etc. bad acting, corny plots, bad dialogue, strange sequences or
ideological ethos, or poor production.
12720017, There's an ocean of difference between being critical of a film...
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Feb-05-15 06:57 PM
... and labeling a film as "shitty." Especially when you like it.

I never called Birdman shitty, nor would I. I was entertained well enough. I found it deeply flawed, but I wouldn't even remotely tiptoe toward calling it shitty. (I assume that's the movie you mean when you say I'm hyper-critical about certain films.)

I would never call a movie I like shitty. Unless it's The Room.
12720084, Have you seen it recently?
Posted by b.Touch, Thu Feb-05-15 10:09 PM
I saw it for the first time in 15 years when it went up on Netflix last year. Kel Mitchell and an isolated scene here or there aside, it's pretty bad. A lot of the problem is that Kenan wasn't yet a strong enough actor to carry a feature, and his Dexter essentially is the main character who has to have the most growth.
12720029, Good Burger is not a shitty movie people

a date who loves machete is a keeper... but let's put gender and genre stereotyping aside, this is a very good film. if you'd said machete kills instead, then i'd be right there with you in it being a shitty film but wonder why you love it. machete is easy to love and not shitty if you understand what they were going for.

Posted by howisya, Thu Feb-05-15 03:32 PM
it's mainly a pastiche of action film tropes. still, there are plenty of women and girls who love action movies and still more who appreciate genre mashups and satire. add onto that the cool cast and stylishness of the film and i gotta call it out as objectively not shitty! :)
