I find myself listening to his podcast often because he interviews the people that I am interested in, but he has this "I'm White but I KNOW black people because I follow black pop culture and I have a few black friends" that drives me a bit crazy.

His set there was definitely about race a third of the time, but the "only" offensive thing he said was about growing up with his Black friends, and how they always won when it came to sad stories. "They'd be like....my dad vanished three years ago, and I haven't seen him since. And I'm like....my dad vanishes...for hours at a time..to play chess...so depressing!" or some shit. Both provide amazing platforms for black artists we likely wouldn't hear from otherwise.

Both are far from perfect but neither is the enemy they are often made out to be.

I like being able to hear Vic Mensa and Joey on Hot 97.

I like hearing in depth interviews with folks like Robert Townsend and Hannibal.

This post paints Neal as some out of touch asshole, but none of his black comedian friends have called him on it? Hmmmmm

The Champs is a fantastic podcast. Neal is an asshole but he is incredibly racially aware.

There's always Gary Owen...

They are gatekeepers that Black Artist "need" to help their careers and get the platforms that they otherwise might not have access to.


Being in that position makes them annoying and has them thinking that they are down and "know" and "understand" black people. But to me their understanding can be pretty superficial "pimpin hoes and slammin cadillac doors"

But no need to get so defensive for those dudes. No one said they were the enemy. I described it as an annoyance.

I still listen to the podcasts so it can't be that terrible.

He's pretty much a dick to Moshe on a regular basis. He can be funny at times but he's not that good of a standup imo. The Champs does have great guests/interviews though.

didnt they think exactly what you thought they thought

not that their views or attitudes or behaviors arent offensive

but the pearl clutching is so misplaced imo

and always tells the story

'we had these guys on the Chapelle show and when Jimmy got his late nite show, I was the one who said, you should hire The Roots for you band'

as if knowing the Roots were the best band in the biz circa 08' was an insight we all didn't already have
