12698965, Show me your art collection
Posted by Hitokiri, Wed Jan-14-15 03:53 PM
I wanna see your (original) art. I've only recently become a collector. I was originally thinking stuff you've bought or traded for or whatever... but shit, OKartists, if you wanna get down on this and post up some of your work gon' head.

So here are some pieces I own.

Purchased in Cuba. Alley scene showing La Bodeguita del Medio; the place the mojito was invented.

Won at an auction. Artist was live painting. I was familiar with his work and put in the first bid just as he was getting started. Won.

Purchased from local artist. Calaca.

Purchased from local artist. Part of her Aquemini series. Rosa Parks.

Purchased from a local artist. Same one who did the auction piece.

I've got a few more pieces. A couple tiny ones that a friend bought for me in Brazil. One painted for me by one of my students. A small print I bought in Mexico that was 1/50. I've got some really, really dope prints by an LA artist that put EVERYTHING else that I have to SHAME. But they're not originals so I didn't post them.

Show me what you got.
12698974, my mojito in la bodeguita, my daiquiri in el floridita
Posted by blackrussian, Wed Jan-14-15 03:57 PM
i aint got no pictures of pictures, besides i have mostly prints so doesn't count.
12698985, Post 'em anyway if you can.
Posted by Hitokiri, Wed Jan-14-15 04:02 PM
Forget about them counting or not.
That was an elitist qualifier for me to put on there.
12699003, i just got this Steve McQueen poster from a recent exhibition

it's a still from a short film he shot called 'Ashes'

i have this in reverse (white with red print)
http://www.lazinc.com/content/images/mailout/2012-12/zevs-liquidated-coca-cola-luminescent-print-edition.jpg
Liquidated Coca Cola by Zevs

some 'tourist' art from DR and Cuba. A print on canvas of 'The Toilet of Venus' by Velazquez.
12699086, Is that cocacola piece on fiberglass?
Posted by Hitokiri, Wed Jan-14-15 05:21 PM
how are the cuba and dr "tourist" pieces?
12699105, maybe the original, but mine is on paper
Posted by blackrussian, Wed Jan-14-15 05:50 PM
i haven't seen the original piece in person but the gallery was giving out prints at some art fair.

the DR piece is a very cool large painting, but the one from Cuba is a more bog-standard wood sculpture - although i love it, so i don't really care.

i have a lot of not-art art, like framed vinyl (how hipster, i know), posters, postcards, textiles & other crafts.
12699232, I wanna see this DR painting!
Posted by Hitokiri, Wed Jan-14-15 08:25 PM
if you have a chance.
12699107, dude, did you see his most recent piece in London?
Posted by GirlChild, Wed Jan-14-15 05:51 PM
the one of the blonde dreadlocked boy?
yo, i just READ the description and it had my all hyped up
i've only seen a handful of his video pieces and i've loved everything
dude is so amazing

*edit i just realized your print is the piece i was referring to! lol
12699119, Yes!
Posted by blackrussian, Wed Jan-14-15 06:00 PM
it was just so...understated and beautiful and tragic.

i happen to have 3 copies of the poster, i can mail you one if you want.
12699243, sure!
Posted by GirlChild, Wed Jan-14-15 08:44 PM
that kind of elegance, that's what i strive for in my work
thats the kind of work i want to make
12699318, It reminded me of the Nas doc

12699230, Can't see the Josama stuff. Gotta be friends with him/her it looks
Posted by Hitokiri, Wed Jan-14-15 08:24 PM
But the other two have some nice stuff.

The Revok stuff uses color in a similar way as Eric Inkala. Another former graf writer.

I like his work. Far too rich for my blood though.
12699368, Here's the IG for Josama
Posted by T Reynolds, Thu Jan-15-15 12:36 AM
It's hard to describe his work, it's so steeped in verbal puns and double meanings. It helps to have him tell you the story about each painting. I have one of his with a holy man feeding a bomb to a shark and a young buddhist monk taking a picture down a watery sinkhole into the abyss in front of a waterfall.

12699957, Yo post that! I wanna see!

12699291, Revok is the fucn man
Posted by astralblak, Wed Jan-14-15 10:07 PM
the stuff he's been doing since he left LA for the D is great. you can tell his inner self feels free after all the hassle LAPD was giving him aroun 2010/2011

That Marthalicia stuff is nice too
12699367, yeah I feel like he has gotten more gritty but gotten more free from the contraints
Posted by T Reynolds, Thu Jan-15-15 12:34 AM
of 'graff' gallery art and focused on creating from a real novel point of view

12699292, wait, so you have prints of those
Posted by astralblak, Wed Jan-14-15 10:09 PM
Lichtenstein and Matisse pieces?

I hate on the former, love the latter
12699795, LOL. you think i'm sitting on originals?
Posted by ndibs, Thu Jan-15-15 12:55 PM
?

yes i have prints.
12699801, nah, i was confused as to why you posted internet
Posted by astralblak, Thu Jan-15-15 12:58 PM
pics of Matisse and Lich, if you had mass produced prints

cause you did post an actual picture of a piece in your home, so I was like QUE?
12700026, cause i don't have pics of all them.
Posted by ndibs, Thu Jan-15-15 03:06 PM

12699129, what is "art"?
Posted by deejboram, Wed Jan-14-15 06:13 PM
or anything dealing with artistry?

anyway, i just bought these two pieces but for about half of the price from the price online.

i got the man and the woman

they are incredible to be seen in person

still boxed up tho:

12699295, those are fucn cool
Posted by astralblak, Wed Jan-14-15 10:10 PM
.
12699136, smuggled these in from South Africa
Posted by deejboram, Wed Jan-14-15 06:20 PM
http://imgur.com/nbWzbqZ

i believe i copped from Front Street in Capetown
memory is foggy
i just remember it was a BITCH smuggling them back in in my carry on luggage as each piece is carved out a single tree trunk and weighs like 80lbs each

so i lugged them all through CPT
then alll through JNB
all thru MAD
then all thru JFK

12699227, Those are super dope.
Posted by Hitokiri, Wed Jan-14-15 08:17 PM
Why did you have to smuggle 'em though?

I had to smuggle the painting i got from Cuba so it wouldn't get confiscated. Travel ban and all.
12699228, Only certain kinds of wood are allowed to be imported into USA
Posted by deejboram, Wed Jan-14-15 08:24 PM
>Why did you have to smuggle 'em though?

Because certain trees/plants abroad contain certain bugs/insects that can ravage USA tree/plants/crops
I could have imported a whole colony of termite that has never been seen in America and those termites could wipe out all Eucalyptus trees on the west coast of California

>I had to smuggle the painting i got from Cuba so it wouldn't
>get confiscated. Travel ban and all.

I brought stuff back from Cuba but they were them janky ass paintings all artist do on the beach.
Same kinda paintings I bought in DR and Haiti and Jamaica

I'm mad as hell I didn't but a piece I looooooved in Morocco
I attended some big known Moroccan artist's showing and his masterpiece was only like 100,000 dirham
i could have put that on the credit card and ate top ramen the rest of the winter and had it paid off
but i relented and now i'm mad

12699235, That's the kinda thing that sucks about art
Posted by Hitokiri, Wed Jan-14-15 08:29 PM
aside from the obvious piece about it being expensive... you gotta be ready to go at a moment's notice unless you know the artist.
12699297, those are wavy as fuck. I'd'a smuggled them too
