12697149, Describe a small joy in your life.
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Tue Jan-13-15 01:22 PM
1. Falling asleep on the couch watching TV on a weekend afternoon. My days are usually so hectic I never get to do it and when it happens it makes me soooo happy.

2. I generally don't eat candy or sweets but every now or then I'll have like three Oreo cookies and a little milk. Or one of those mini kit kat bars. Pure joy.

3. I won't bore you with the kids stuff but there are tons of moments they do little things that do it for me.

new office
new couch
rearranged the other furniture

I used to spend all my time in my bedroom but since New Year's Eve, I've spent every waking moment possible in my new living room and it's ossim.

the first bite of a dish I've really been looking forward to preparing or eating.

when I really don't want to work out but I do it anyways.

when my cats come over to me for an impromptu cuddling session.

Every morning, when I wake her up, I bring my coffee and a yogurt smoothie for her. She sits up in bed, and we toast cheers and talk about our plans for the day.

Fast forward to the time we purchased our home that came with a fridge with an ice maker and water dispenser, she has gotten spoiled. Posted by jimaveli, Wed Jan-14-15 10:43 PM
1. Women in boots and jeans. I would've said leggings/tights but that's a big joy.

2. Working out. Endorphins or whatever. It feels good to get physical. I miss it dearly when I don't do it...and I haven't regularly in a good while.

3. Okp...gives me a shot at brain dumps and confessions. I also love the funny one-liners and jackass picture or gif replies, and I get the occasional late pass to an artist or tv show. Hell...that's prolly a big joy too.

4. Naps. Especially when I'm on vacation.

5. Seeing my wife asleep. Judge me. Call me creepy. Whatever. She has a pretty face/I'm attracted to her. And I know she's relaxing, not having to take care of anybody, etc. I like that and she deserves the break.

6. Catching people at my job being lightweight racist and calling them out on in an overboard manner. And not letting them out of it until they are pressing...then I just laugh and point to them.

7. Pacman dx edition. Takes me back to my days as a kid with the 13 inch tv and an Atari 5200.

8. Workaholics.

9. Those Tecmo Bowl roms with the updated rosters.

10. i call my daughter queen of the goofballs sometimes when she's being goofy. She loves calling me queen of anything as a 'snappy' comeback. And she thinks it soooo clever.

...and hugs me. Such a wonderful feeling.

When I got some sort of vacation/extra days off that are coming up real soon.

As mentioned up above, going on trips and staying in hotels. I love that feeling.

Driving. It's so relaxing to me and freeing. Whether I'm driving to some place local or traveling, I love driving.

Being on the go. Whether it's for a job or during my leisure time. Being on the go makes me feel alive.

Figuring out a technical detail of a scene while watching a movie.

A nice cup of coffee at a coffee shop.

Feeling productive during the day.

Seeing someone attractive on the bus.

Hearing the librarian saying thank you when just completing a shift volunteering at the library.

The feeling of accomplishment when finishing a workout.

Nothing better than the sound of a swish, whether nylon or metal.

And I also love when competition gets heated, even though shit doesn't matter at all. I don't mean tough guy stuff, I mean guys bearing down and playing a good ass game of hoops.

A super hot shower after a long night of hoops or fucking or work is awesome. I was thinking today that if I had the choice between a 2000-sq-ft house with only cold water and a 1000-sq-foot with hot water, I would take the smaller place lol.

Finding a new band you kinda love is exhilarating and rewarding.

I love the last glass of milk in the bottle, super cold in big swigs.

12868332, Small joys are great
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri Jul-31-15 09:00 AM
edit: i thought yesterday's reply didn't post so forgive the repetition.

In fact the only thing I don't like about big joys (falling in love, big professional project, etc) is that it sucks the pleasures out of the small joys, which are important.

1) The swish of a shot going straight through the net, whether nylon or metal. I love it so much that I will go out and shoot 50 foul shots even though I haven't played an organized game with free throws in eight years or so. I even go shoot on pop-a-shot machines to hear it 100 times. There is nothing like it, except when the swish wins you a game.

2) That first puff of the day. You'll never get a warmer feeling from any of the subsequent puffs. I don't like to take a monster rip but nothing small either. A long drag off a J or a decent-sized dab to get me open. It's better to wait until the night time after all my shit is done, that makes it feel juuuuuuust right.

3) A hot ass shower after a long day of work, fucking, hoops or some combination thereof. I also take hot showers to think, like if I am writing a story and the organization isn't flowing, I take a hot shower and do an outline in my head in those 10 or 15 minutes. I was thinking the other day that if I had the choice between a 2000-sq-ft home with cold ass showers or a 1000-sq-ft home with a luxurious, hot shower, I'd live in the smaller place. Seriously.

13373152, Ohhh hell yea - good call. I had this happen with a toothache, too.
Posted by Brew, Fri Mar-13-20 11:15 AM
I needed (and eventually got, of course) a root canal cuz my old dentist had fucked up a filling a couple years prior. So one day out of nowhere, that tooth got super sensitive then almost immediately jolted me with the worst pain I'd ever experienced in my entire life, before and since. I spent an entire sleepless nite screaming into a pillow it was so bad.

The next day I got some meds to dull the pain and they did the first part of the root canal. Once that pain subsided I was a fucking new man. Felt like I'd cheated certain death haha.

I went out that nite with some friends (I was around 23 at the time) feeling like I could conquer the world. In my single days I was always kind of a pussy when it came to approaching girls who I deemed out of my league but that nite I approached the hottest girl I could find in the bar with the confidence of Obama and ended up getting her number and subsequently hooking up with her for the next like 8 months haha. My most successful "pickup" I think.
