This dude I work with just got his first gun and license to carry in December. He was telling me how he was with his kids at the park the past weekend and he saw some "homeless people" walking from the woods, he said he placed his hand on his gun just in case. The people were just waling from the woods, that's it. Not bothering him, not talking to him, nothing.
I told him he was the kinda person I'd be most worried about, not the people coming from the trees. He's >one of those conservatives< of course. Dude just got his gun and is already thinking like this.. thousands of people are out there just waiting for the moment to use their gun on someone.

The current structure of our news media and the availability bias got people thing the country is like Mad Max right now.

Before I'd carry a gun, I'd have to consider the probability of encountering a legit situation where I would have to use it.
Compare that to the probability that I'd accidentally hurt myself or someone else (quite high with my clumsy ass).
Also factor in the possibility "misunderstandings" (police or other armed people incorrectly perceiving me as a threat)

All that together tells me I going to be just armed with these fists for now.

Dude at work was telling me how he sleeps with one on the nightstand. I asked him where he lived.

I snatched up an older white dude for talking shit about my wife while we were in the parking deck.

When I was a safe distance he called me a "fucking nigger" then ran... he was chubby though so I said to myself... "fuck it, you can catch him"

...and I did.

I caught him in front of the valet and he was pleading like a little bitch for help. No one would help him, especially when they heard what our argument was about. It was so bad he screamed out to my wife to help him. How you gonna ask for help from the same person you just disrespected

Whole way home I was thinking it could have gone totally different and I would be the thug who made him fear for his life.

I was embarrassed at how easily I snapped but it must have been in me for a minute... I wasn't even drunk or buzzed.

i picture him running, fast in his mind but slow as hell to anybody else watching...while you stand there looking up slightly is you think about whether or not you're gonna go after him...

then you shrug your shoulders and take off running. once he knows you're behind him and closing in fast, he panics and starts running even harder. but since the only thing that runs in his family is heart disease & diabetes, he's not going much faster.

In a store that sold loose fruit and nuts, as weird as that sounds. I went to look at some items near the front of the line, old dude thought I was cutting and said some slick shit, and I gave him a look and kept on doing what I was doing. My homey, however, wasn't in the mood for it and told dude to STFU. Old white dude drew a line in the sand, and dared my homey to hit him. He kept repeating that... "go ahead! Hit me! Bet you wont!" while puffing his chest out. Moms were in there with their kids and everything. Two big-ass young black dudes vs. and old, out of shape white dude. Putting 2-and-2 together, I just shouted out to the whole store that dude was probably strapped, high off cocaine and trying to instigate us two young black men just trying to buy a snack. We bounced.

Anyway, I always wondered if dude was trying to get one of us to hit him so he had an excuse to shoot us. This was in CC Philly, btw.

I looked at my man dumbfounded, my man looked at me, we laughed and walked into the mall.

Aunt no way he wasn't packing testing two young dudes half his age twice his size in the far back part of a parking lot.

He was an off duty cop btw

dude was grilling me and my boy in the line at Marshalls

homie said is there a problem?

dude flashed his gun

homie said am I supposed to be scared?

Dude then pulled out his badge and was like he need to see our IDs

I said fuck you I ain't showing u shyt

we continue ice grillin each other till its time to pay for our shyt

we pay and start walking out the store

he yells out we need to wait outside

my boy yells fuck you and I turn around and start laughing

we got the hell outta dodge tho when we were in the parkin lot

this was like 5yrs ago

I still think about that asshole cop

especially recently

that shyt could've went left if he pursued us out the door

a lot of gun owners are dumb and irresponsible these days. as far as criminals are concerned, if someone gets the jump on me, then they get the jump on me. it sucks but oh well. situational awareness is your best weapon on those kinds of situations, and it doesn't matter if you're carrying or not.

Not a big deal. I'm used to guns and responsible gun owners, so these guns are much less scary than people driving cars and playing with their smartphones at the same time.

I grew up shooting guns at paper targets at ranges, so guns aren't some scary magical death device to me.

like women in nursing scrubs and other professional looking ppl
that kind of threw me since the narrative is that only black thugs and white rednecks carry weapons
i was in line at WFoods and this unassuming asian kid in front of me had a big ass glock poking from under his shirt
it's ALOT of guns in circulation out here and there is no way to tell who has one on them

i saw some show on discovery that was saying they can sometimes trace a shell back to a specific gun without even having the gun in their possession for ballistics

Shit is scary, man, but obviously the public has no power to change it.

I almost prefer open-carry states. Like in Arizona, you don't have to assume every asshole you see has a gun, you see it in plain sight.

part of me was thinking "why are you in here? you live in HappyLand." meanwhile i'm coming in the house from work at 2am or later and i'm not trying to get caught slipping. but it kind of goes a number of ways though: a) my neighborhood is pretty quiet with the occasional ounce of bullshit that somebody wants to do b) i'm sure the jackers know that i'm not on no fuck shit and i'm just a working man trying to make it in the door c) right now it's too damn cold to be doing anything stupid when the streetlights come on.

and i get that you can never be too cautious but for suburbanites to want to carry for the one or two times they actually cross the city lines to go downtown just because it's downtown detroit is stupid to me. like a few months ago this lady on the westside was coming home late from work and she saw two dudes coming her way and they tried her, shot her 4 times, she was carrying, hit both of them and sent them both to the hospital, and she survived. that's the shit i worry about. but if i lived across 9 mile i wouldn't even sweat being robbed coming home from work.
