12694212, What You Think Obama Will Do When He's Out Of Office? Posted by vee-lover, Fri Jan-09-15 11:35 AM
I'm sure he'll get a library (they'll mess around and put his presidential library at Howard or some shit lol)
And I'm sure he'll start a foundation
but I could see him staring, being a part of, and/supporting a social movement - perhaps going back to Chicago to deal w/some of the problems there
I get the sense that he felt limited in many ways because of his position as leader of the country, a very divided one at that, to effectively deal w/the issues effecting the poor and the average working citizens.

12694223, People will hate it but he should join the Clinton Initiative. Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Fri Jan-09-15 11:40 AM
Or Join the Gates Foundation.
Not go work for either but be a partner (of course they would have to change the name of the organizations).
They both got so much muscle and money. He could be the one to lead the urban effort.

12694241, RE: Obama probably would want to start something up (similar) Posted by vee-lover, Fri Jan-09-15 11:49 AM
rather than join up w/Bill
I'm not really sure what their relationship is like
And depending on how Obama is perceived nationally once his term is up next year would also factor in w/the Clintons whether they would want to be associated w/Obama w/this being an election cycle coming up

12694230, probably the usual stuff Posted by wluv, Fri Jan-09-15 11:44 AM
speaking tours and book deals.
probably serve on a Fortune 500 board. He's been good to Wall Street so its definitely a possibility.
i dont see him getting involved in ground level community service.
Could be wrong but just dont see it.

Why no though? He would no longer be beholding to Wall Street and I think his heart is in community organizing than it would be just getting paid...but I could be wrong as well > >Could be wrong but just dont see it.

12694578, RE: probably the usual stuff Posted by wluv, Fri Jan-09-15 03:39 PM
By then he will be at least 12-14 years removed from that type of ground level work.
Even as a former president, his words will carry more weight on a national level and he will be careful about what he choses to get involved in. You see how the media spins anything he says on social issues now. Multiply that by 10 when he's citizen Obama without the White House staff team to help mitigate the negative spin. It might be more harm than good for him to be that involved.
I see him thinking more in terms making statements as a former president and statesmen and doing all the other things former presidents do.

Becoming a senator would mean he has to deal w/more GOP intransigence and Washington gridlock
|
12694328, Andrew Johnson Posted by Jay Doz, Fri Jan-09-15 01:05 PM
Beyond that, only J.Q. Adams (who spent the rest of his career in the House of Representatives), Taft (who served on the Supreme Court), and Tyler (who was elected to the Confederate House of Representatives) went on to any government service after the presidency.

Obama does not come from people of the forced Diaspora.
His reaction, internalization, processing and understanding are different and are not expected to be the same even as the most uncle tomish negro such as Clarence Thomas.

Her pet project (childhood obesity) was fluff just like Laura/Barbara Bush (literacy) and Nancy Reagan (just say no).
Contrast that with Hillary Clinton who was almost like a co-president. She was behind the scenes on a lot of national policies, especially healthcare reform.
