12694167, Do you feel particularly vulnerable to terrorism? Posted by Mongo, Fri Jan-09-15 11:10 AM
It's been a part of Western society for some time, but the media's coverage has becoming increasingly shrill and screechy over the past decade. Do you feel like you're susceptible? Like it could happen to you? That you're targeted in any way?

12694175, As someone who saw 9/11 with my own eyes in person as a child... Posted by bonitaapplebaum71481, Fri Jan-09-15 11:16 AM
I still don't feel like a terrorist attack is likely to happen to me.
I don't live in Hezbollah where suicide bombings are a weekly occurence. Recently saw this Gore Vidal quote and almost did a fist pump in my bed...
“Little Bush says we are at war, but we are not at war because to be at war Congress has to vote for it. He says we are at war on terror, but that is a metaphor, though I doubt if he knows what that means. It's like having a war on dandruff, it's endless and pointless.”

12694221, Only when I'm downtown at work Posted by 8-bit, Fri Jan-09-15 11:39 AM
Around the way at home, I feel perfectly safe. It's only when I head downtown to work around all of these "terrorists' victim"-looking folks that I get a little nervous.
tl;dr: Ain't worried about the hood getting bombed, but slightly worried about being in the wrong place at the wrong time when the rich folks get their shit bombed.

I don't know if I dig all this live coverage tho. it makes it more immediate, but it also confirms my 'over there' view on it.

sorry those mass shootings do worry me also i work by the holland tunnel
so...yes and no i'm more on alert but its not like panic mode all day everyday
more like we had a drill a few months ago that the building botched and by building i mean employees as a whole we botched it if it was real we'd be dead theres about 1000 of us normally this is a shrug and go on about our day we botched it so bad they scheduled another drill two days later people tried to laugh it off
i couldnt because we work outside the holland tunnel and we screwed that drill up bad that frankly next drill and emergency i'm for delf ~~~~ When you are born, you cry, and the world rejoices. |
12694398, ^^^ I've really been thinking about this recently Posted by bentagain, Fri Jan-09-15 01:57 PM
IMO
the war on terror = the war on drugs
not that this wasn't happening all along
but it has become much more evident since 9/11
if the war on terror means
US citizens forfeiting their rights
and turning our law enforcement agents into occupying military forces
isn't that a win for the terrorists we're supposedly fighting
i.e., I am terrified
but it's not Al-Qaeda or Isis that I fear.

12694425, it's a win for the 1% who control the terrorists Posted by Atillah Moor, Fri Jan-09-15 02:12 PM

>It's been a part of Western society for some time, but the >media's coverage has becoming increasingly shrill and screechy >over the past decade. Do you feel like you're susceptible? >Like it could happen to you? That you're targeted in any way?
My definition of terrorism is walking down the street minding my own business as someone messes with me or pull out a weapon on me because of my ethnic heritage. That's terrorism and something that has become a part of my regular routine. If we keeping it one hundred, the biggest threat to my safety is the conservative christian raised on fox news that has a license to kill quick to pull a trigger. That person is more of a threat than this fictional pretend Islam practicioner fighting some media fabricated war.
I've had several conflicts in the past few years where there was a fifty/fifty chance of not making it out alive based solely off of who I am. Whatever has to happen can happen at any moment for whatever reason outside of my control.
|
12695230, Whenever terrorism occurs, I'm afraid of being targeted Posted by afrogirl_lost, Sat Jan-10-15 05:02 PM
because I wear hijab. Muslim women often bear the brunt of anti-Islamic attacks.
However, I'm still more afraid of being attacked by a cop or a street harasser.
|
12695232, I worry about being attacked by anyone period Posted by sixteenstone, Sat Jan-10-15 05:08 PM
I'm super paranoid based off personal experiences though. Now am I afraid of Osama nem type stuff? Hell yes. The fear doesn't prevent me from living my life. But I pay cautious attention to my surrounding period.
|
12695244, Nope, I'm more worried about one of my crazy co workers shooting Posted by blkprinceMD05, Sat Jan-10-15 05:35 PM
Up the place and tbh....not really that worried about that happening
I also wasn't worried at all when the brought the Ebola patients to ATL, ppl were freaking out like shit, I judged them. Rest in peace to the what 2 ppl who died out of 300 million or just the 5 million in metro Atlanta but yeah I knew it was nothing to worry about
