12694030, How would you feel if this was your COLLEGE bookstore?
Posted by deejboram, Fri Jan-09-15 09:07 AM
these are the only books in this bookstore besides textbooks
i'd have a problem sending my child(ren) here to "study"

12694032, its probably for a featured class
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Fri Jan-09-15 09:13 AM
Thats how the displays at my bookstore were set up
12694034, LOL no, it is not. I took this picture.
Posted by deejboram, Fri Jan-09-15 09:16 AM
Again, there are ZERO other "leisure" read books in this book store

If it helps, this is a HBCU bookstore
12694039, its an HBCU
Posted by tomjohn29, Fri Jan-09-15 09:22 AM

12694044, You did say bookstore, right?

Posted by deejboram, Fri Jan-09-15 09:33 AM
And if these are the ONLY NON-TEXTBOOKS in the bookstore
then, there is a problem
12694183, Yeah, but...

>And if these are the ONLY NON-TEXTBOOKS in the bookstore

Come on, you know that these are not the only non-text in that store. You know they have some mess by Steve Harvey and Oprah up in that joint.

well, they had some GRE/GMAT/SAT test prep books
you can actually see that tiny shelf they got in this pic

they even sold SCANTRON here
i aint seen a SCANTRON in 15 years

im not going to call out which school this is at
but it is a HBCU

we gotta do better ppl

gotsta!
12694298, Don't hate on the SCANTRON. Colleges still use them.
Posted by Case_One, Fri Jan-09-15 12:42 PM
I know this for a fact because when I was working at Mercer University's School of Pharmacy I had to use that Scantron. Try grading test for classes that have 90 students and you will be grateful for that scantron.

I hated that job too.

12694377, why is any university giving MULTIPLE CHOICE exams?
Posted by deejboram, Fri Jan-09-15 01:45 PM
maybe it's me because i was a math major
but ALLL my exams need to be thoroughly written out in longhand

SHOW YOUR WORK

or you dont get credit for the problem

12694071, thats more sad than anything else
Posted by double negative, Fri Jan-09-15 09:52 AM
im immediately thinking about the lonely christian goodgirls staying in a friday night with those books and her back massager while her "loose" dorm-mate goes and gets it in at the club
12694077, you thinking social aspect , im thinking intellectual impact
Posted by deejboram, Fri Jan-09-15 09:57 AM
them books corrode the mind
12694076, Lot of HBCU bookstores are virtual now...
Posted by murderbear, Fri Jan-09-15 09:57 AM
Probably too much overhead to house and constantly update various editions of texts.

I lot of schools have online bookstores that probably ship out of a shared, central location.

Brick and mortar campus stores are now just focused on supplies and school para, and maybe the odd 'flavor of the month' offering (like Zane)
12694082, welp, too late to edit now.
Posted by deejboram, Fri Jan-09-15 10:00 AM
you got me
but even the college bookstore has been gobbled up by amazon and bn.com
that's where all these bookstores feed off of anyway

whatever happened to walking down to the SC and copping whatever book that's on the shelf to tide you through a long crisp aired fall weekend?
curl up in your XL twin bed with a book and a cup of cocoa and get lost in the story.

oh, yall aint do that?
12694084, I would feel like Zane paid for shelf space
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Jan-09-15 10:02 AM
12694347, Zane readers are probably the only ones dumb enough
Posted by unfukwitable, Fri Jan-09-15 01:27 PM

12694375, Half the student body drops out after Homecoming
Posted by deejboram, Fri Jan-09-15 01:43 PM
half of that half drops out after spring probates
12694378, If you're buying books from your college's bookstore you already lost
Posted by Oak27, Fri Jan-09-15 01:45 PM
12694386, LOL some classes have books that can ONLY be bought at school
Posted by deejboram, Fri Jan-09-15 01:50 PM
i know this because i tried to be slick and buy my cousin's math book for her off Amazon
nope nope
that $125 book is good or only ONE USE because each book contains a code to access the homework problems online

this was at Stephen F Austin by the way

but yeah, i feel you
and until i ran into this problem last year i'd say the same

oh, that math book was written by the professor who taught the course and was the dept chair so basically dude was making $125 per student he had enrolled in his class on top of his salary

and the book was really some bullshit pamphlet he had his assistants xerox using the schools paper/toner
12694393, We used to find "free" PDFs online and share them with the whole class
Posted by Oak27, Fri Jan-09-15 01:55 PM
On more than one occasion we happened to find the teacher's edition with the answer book. After my freshmen year I think I spent less then $200 total on all future textbooks.
12694417, i never bought books in undergrad
Posted by deejboram, Fri Jan-09-15 02:08 PM
>On more than one occasion we happened to find the teacher's

but im telling you at SFASU you pay $125 for an access code so you can do your homework problems
one code is only good for ONE STUDENT
so that is the professors hustle
making each student for over $125 just to...

you know what, i smell a law suit
because that's not fucking right
shit, they even had a $200 biololgy/zoology book
12694452, Yeah that's some bullshit
Posted by Oak27, Fri Jan-09-15 02:26 PM
That's a result of the majority of college kids not only realizing how ridiculous the prices of books are at the bookstore but finding an alternate solution and either buying them cheaper from Amazon or using one of the rental book dealers. Schools needed to find a new way to ensure their students are giving them as much money as possible even after paying the outrageous tuition bill.
