Americans learned from the racist ass colonial powers that came before them. Countries like France refuse to even offer a count of their minority populations, let alone admit that racism exists within their borders. At least in the U.S., we can have an intelligent dialogue about race, and upwardly mobile black folks can get in where they fit in. In France, their dismissiveness about the challenges that black and brown people face allows rampant discrimination and social inequality to go unchecked. Their black and brown unemployment rate is out of control, even by U.S. standards.

It's just a reminder that in any place that there are white people, black people are screwed.
