How was it?

Taraji stan and the last TV show I was really into was Person of Interest.

For the most part I felt like the characters in Empire were believable and I'm looking for to the next episode

the rhythm and vibe of the whole show is like a ridiculously cheesy, rushed, black version of nashville.

which i don't mind cause i was raised on Y&R but i was hoping the show would have a higher standard. it's just the first ep tho.

..solid casting, but the overall execution is corny.

howard & henson will undoubtedly deliver, but the direction/production won't let them be great. that could change, but its highly doubtful. i hope i'm wrong. i think terrance & taraji are good for tv.

and i get that it was suppose to be sad and upsetting but that this was so funny...like he whupped his son then went to throw him out in the trash...if this ends up being some shit where Terrance Howard is repressing his own homosexual desires I will be DONE.

..it was certainly the right balance of action/direction/cinematography.

I was entertained.

The "Dynasty/Glee mashup" analysis is dead on.

The music is okay.

The breaking out into song (and yes, it qualifies if it's just a nigga and a keyboard and suddenly there's a full damn arrangement on the soundtrack, strings and all) is a bit jarring with all of the high drama like children being thrown into trash cans and such.

It's HIGHLY unrealistic (what entertainment company of that size goes public? What CEO of said company has the time to personally produce his sons' albums?)

The gay storyline is just on the overdone side of "MESSAGE!" (how many times do they need to say or stress that black people have a problem with gays?) Though I'm sure it's news and revelation to some.

This pilot was alllll over the place, but pilots usually are.
