Posted by Case_One, Mon Jan-05-15 11:35 AM
But people love to talk about Churches, Pastors, Sex and Money.

Oh well. Looks like the kids had fun, but someone will find fault in the matter anyway.

Looks like the kids had fun.
12690072, what's "the game"??
Posted by Calico, Mon Jan-05-15 12:24 PM
it looks really misguided, but i haven't seen the "why" of it all yet
12690098, In what way is this helping make these children better people?
Posted by Very-Effortless, Mon Jan-05-15 12:47 PM
Or closer to God?

I don't understand the fucking purpose.

One of my Facebook friends goes to this church and I guess this has been big talk in Memphis for a while and she did a whole rant about how her pastor is a great spiritual father and how the exercise taught the kids something... but I don't see any lesson in it. Except "LOOK, WE GAVE YOU SOME POCKET CHANGE AND YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING FOR IT"

Which to me, is teaching the wrong thing.
12690108, did she say what the lesson was? lol
Posted by SHAstayhighalways, Mon Jan-05-15 12:56 PM
12690169, "giving back to the community"... but again - I fail to see how this exercise
Posted by Very-Effortless, Mon Jan-05-15 01:41 PM
accomplished teaching the kids to give back more than it taught them to be greedy little beggars that will get on their knees for a dollar.
12690173, right? that shit is just weird as fk
Posted by SHAstayhighalways, Mon Jan-05-15 01:44 PM
12690217, oh, I just looked at the thread and the Bishop replied to the post

<Grammar is a mess>

You know there is really nothing new under the sun! Every time Jesus did something positive to the people the so call religious people and others refused to see the good. In this case what you don't know makes you ignorant! As a Minstry we have been doing these kinds of things for 40+ years and so you would know we did give money to many people in their hands as well as bikes TVs, computers, clothes and etc hundreds of people Christmas Day! We gave complete Christmas request to several families and MUCH more...(what did you do??) ...The now famous MONEY room is something we do after church as our last fun event for the youth. I experienced this kind of encouragement as a teenager in Sunday School which was a highlight in encouraging many youth to come to church. It drew them to the Truth and as a result many were saved and are still active in ministry 45 years later. Could you imagine Jesus on Social Cam spitting on the ground and then putting the mud on the blind man's eyes just to make him see?? Did you get it he did not see Christ until the extreme strange thing Jesus made him do!! Could Jesus have just healed him? Sure! But why did he do the extra uncommon thing?? Because!!! And who care why as long as the man SAW!! Take a notice that none of you had children in the room on the floor because that's where the money was...not in the air! I have done this fun activity for many years even for my sons when they were small. Now check it out NONE of the Parents who's kids were there are complaining because it was a GAME for them. It was my personal money and Since you did not have a child there nor any of YOUR MONEY why are you even concern?? Many kids who got nothing for Christmas walked out of the Money room with hundreds of dollars...you people are what Jesus call Busy Bodies!! Remember God Created RAIN and he Raines on the Just and unjust! Father for give them because they don't have a clue!!! ...Bishop Brandon B. Porter
12690227, LOL
Posted by teefiveten, Mon Jan-05-15 02:20 PM

>...you people are what Jesus call Busy Bodies!!
12690239, I'm not sure Jesus used that exact turn of phrase.
Posted by Very-Effortless, Mon Jan-05-15 02:24 PM
But my bigger problem is with him basically saying he's bribing the kids to come to church.
12690279, and feeling good that some walked out w/ that much money
Posted by teefiveten, Mon Jan-05-15 02:39 PM
because they had nothing.

which i can understand but they could have done something more empowering than having kids on their knees mauling each other for money in a dark room

unless they plan on doing that every sunday for the kids

you can lure kids to church in other ways. when i used to go to church they had services specifically for youth. that helped a lot.
12690288, I got no problem with bribing children
Posted by veritas, Mon Jan-05-15 02:43 PM
But if you're going to bribe somebody don't have em crawl around on the floor fighting for money for your amusement.
12690356, why not have a lil quiz at the end of chrildren's church?
Posted by Calico, Mon Jan-05-15 03:09 PM
give em more money the better grade they get??
12690359, shoot i wouldn't even be opposed to labor
Posted by teefiveten, Mon Jan-05-15 03:10 PM
have them paint the community room in the church or something

12690372, when I still went to church we got money for grades, for getting in college
Posted by Very-Effortless, Mon Jan-05-15 03:17 PM
and just BEING in college.

Like, we used to get $250 every Christmas just for being college students.

And there was a whole ceremony about it where we went up to the pulpit, shook the pastor's hand, took a picture and talked about our major and something we did that semester... as an inspiration to other kids in high school. All you had to do to qualify was get a letter from the school saying you were enrolled and have them send it before Thanksgiving.

That's positive reinforcement in my opinion. Having kids stand up, say something they have accomplished and reward them for it. Not having them roll around on the ground like fucking animals for change.
12690362, smh.. I can't believe people fall for this shit...
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jan-05-15 03:13 PM
12690392, sounds like it encouraged him to become a scam artist.
Posted by SHAstayhighalways, Mon Jan-05-15 03:24 PM
12690103, isn't that the same rev nigga from the DELIVERT video?
Posted by SHAstayhighalways, Mon Jan-05-15 12:52 PM
12690170, he is COGIC... so maybe.
Posted by Very-Effortless, Mon Jan-05-15 01:42 PM
12690162, Is this what Sunday Schools, in the Black Church, is like now?
Posted by Cam, Mon Jan-05-15 01:37 PM
I don't go to Church, but what I remember of Sunday School from my youth, when visiting my Grandparents', is being taught Bible stories by little old ladies.

Why can't/don't Black Churches do more to provide partially non-secular educational regimens, as a way to increase self worth, intellectual curiosity, and a bridge in the gap of cultural awareness, opposed to mindlessly worshipping people for having a little money--like the video shows?
Think of the partnerships with HBCU's and Africana/Black Studies programs from leading institutions. To simplify it, even just using the research and documentaries Skip Gates does http://www.pbs.org/wnet/black-in-latin-america/
He at least has the cache of Harvard, to provide legitimacy.

I wonder if Hebrew schools have a centralized monolithic curriculums?
12690179, NO
Posted by Calico, Mon Jan-05-15 01:49 PM
12690231, maybe the hasidic ones
Posted by teefiveten, Mon Jan-05-15 02:21 PM

>I wonder if Hebrew schools have a centralized monolithic
>curriculums?

but overall, i'd say no
12690234, it's also easier to control people when you have them
Posted by teefiveten, Mon Jan-05-15 02:23 PM
thinking about god and/or money

remember when the church used to be the hub of the civil rights movement?

12690283, Right, MLK did much more than preach about Jesus, to uplift the community.
Posted by Cam, Mon Jan-05-15 02:40 PM
And, of his inspirations, he wasn't talking about Private Jets, but Gandhi.
12690230, this is so damn degrading. . .

result without having kids crawl around the floor scampering for dough like strippers at a strip club (BTW, it's a pretty degrading practice at the strip clubs as well).
