12688304, the autotune man
Posted by RobOne4, Wed Dec-31-14 11:50 PM
This would be so much better with a raw real voice. Leave the imperfections in and it sounds more emotional. Its hard to feel the emotion of a robot.
12688310, agreed

esp for a song with lyrics where u need that feeling

cool tune, i was pleasantly surprised.
12689183, RE: the autotune man
Posted by Goose, Sat Jan-03-15 01:37 PM
I disagree. Kanye always uses autotune when he's the most vulnerable. It gives him something to hide behind when he's singing about really personal shit.
12688305, I like. It's sweet.
Posted by Errol Walton Barrow, Wed Dec-31-14 11:56 PM
12688307, sound like dude is finally at peace w/ his moms passing.

12688309, When he is able to talk about it (I haven't heard him talk about it) publicly
Posted by Castro, Thu Jan-01-15 12:20 AM
that is when he will be okay....but its good to see he is working through it via his art.
12688308, good

12688338, Why are folks giving this terrible ass shit a pass?
Posted by Geah, Thu Jan-01-15 09:14 AM
autotune horrible and he still can't sing with the shit.

12688350, but the song has potential. ending is a lil weird tho.

12688414, kanye could take a dump on a plate, serve it to people
Posted by makaveli, Thu Jan-01-15 02:13 PM
and they would call it genius. having said that, I don't think this is a bad song, but I don't think its that great either.
12688963, if you hate it it must not be too bad

fuck outta here.
12688372, not here to argue, but it's glorious.
Posted by woe.is.me., Thu Jan-01-15 11:07 AM
when people see footage of thousands of faces singing and crying to this in a few months, maybe they'll appreciate it more for what it is.
12688388, So people should appreciate things simply because others do?
Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Thu Jan-01-15 12:34 PM
I sincerely hope that's not the stance you're posing here, because appreciation is a personal thing much more than it is a mass thing.
12688389, it's the first day of a new year
Posted by woe.is.me., Thu Jan-01-15 12:38 PM
consider leaving your schtick to be needlessly argumentative behind you.
it would be long over due.

i did not anywhere state that "people should appreciate things because others do."
I said when they see the impact this song is likely to have (and already has) on others, they will appreciate it for what it is (a love song from a son to his deceased mother and new daughter. something many people can relate to, regardless of the use of autotune).

you don't have to like it.
i do.

the world will continue to spin, and our lives will remain the same without either of us trying to convince the other to feel otherwise.
12688396, Stop being overly sensitive about your tastes
Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Thu Jan-01-15 01:22 PM
>consider leaving your schtick to be needlessly argumentative
>behind you.
>it would be long over due.
>

and leave this sort of commentary in the trash where it belongs. I'm asking you a question that I'm looking for an answer on. Of course you can answer, or not, but I'm not making assumptions here. And I've never been argumentative anywhere on this site, because that isn't my personality.

>i did not anywhere state that "people should appreciate things
>because others do."
>I said when they see the impact this song is likely to have

>it is (a love song from a son to his deceased mother and new

Seeing how things affect others isn't a gauge for appreciation. As a person that likes music, you should know this. As I said, appreciation is a personal endeavor, and isn't indicative of quality or artistic merit. And it shouldn't be, either. That's the wonderful thing about it.

>you don't have to like it.
>i do.

I don't recall making a statement on what I thought of the record, this is you being irrationally defensive to your stance on the artist because you're used to being attacked for your tastes. Which is logical, considering where we're posting, but seriously calm down.

>
>the world will continue to spin, and our lives will remain the
>same without either of us trying to convince the other to feel
>otherwise.

Yet again another baseless accusation. I've never tried to convince anyone not to like anything they like, that's a pretty silly position to take.
12688399, Truth. Thank you for saying it.

12688421, I like it but agree with the auto tune commentary...
Posted by gumz, Thu Jan-01-15 02:38 PM
I can see him needing it to sing it live but he should be able to lay the track down without it. It would work way better that way.
12688423, You know McCartney was like "Whatever, cut the check!"

12688436, expected to not like this

12688437, the autotune ruins it. like rather than correct pitch its fucking the pitch up
Posted by SHAstayhighalways, Thu Jan-01-15 04:44 PM
i wanted to like it. oh well.
12688474, listened to it a few times. this is a hit. especially with a dope vid

12688960, RE: i don't think he has a nice singing voice
Posted by initiationofplato, Fri Jan-02-15 05:43 PM
sounds whiny and the auto tune amplifies it for me. i basically hear nails running down a chalk board when i listen to him sing.
12689027, that, too. but this song will inspire covers
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri Jan-02-15 08:36 PM
by people who can actually sing
12688520, It's touching and brave. I like it.
Posted by HoneyBrown, Thu Jan-01-15 11:18 PM
12688541, autotune sounds terrible.
Posted by initiationofplato, Fri Jan-02-15 02:43 AM
12688962, I like it, not a huge fan of the autotune.
Posted by Binladen, Fri Jan-02-15 05:49 PM
Cant see why why anyone would hate though.

12688969, sweet gesture, terrible song

i remember not knowing Paul McCartney.

at some point we all had to learn who he is.
12689106, why does that closing lyrical coda feel a little like a suicide note?
Posted by Bombastic, Sat Jan-03-15 04:41 AM
or at the very least a man believing in his own early demise.

It's a nice sentiment and all but I can't see putting this song on voluntarily.

But generally artist's tributes to their young children are only slightly more interesting than stories/pics on Facebook about their kids posted by girls you knew from high school or stand-up comedy routines on the same subject.

If I don't know/love you personally, I likely don't care all that much and making it interesting as a musical milieu is tough to do.

12689139, Neil Young's Transformer Man is a very moving song, IMO
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sat Jan-03-15 11:00 AM
I could probably think of other such examples. Yes, they are usually sappy and seemingly inappropriate for public consumption, but there are exceptions.
12689152, The song is supposed to be from the perspective of his mother

to get repeat airplay. It's not like Paul Simon's Father and Daughter where it taps into some universal feeling. It's very specific to his situation.

i guess that is kinda sorta something a mother would say or think, but coming from him and in this context? blech.
12689991, I didn't want to make a separate post about Kanye Rumors but...
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Mon Jan-05-15 11:14 AM
So I was at this holiday party talking to this this couple working in Music (she had me dying telling me everyone in Sony does everything by Fax now).

Anyway she was like it's common knowledge that Kanye and Kim will divorce this year, Kanye is broke (lost a ton of money in fashion) and also in a relationship with the dude who made Kim that terrible dress she wore to the Met while pregnant a couple of years ago. I didn't take it too seriously although there is alot of it written online (which really isn't a basis to take it more seriously).

Anyway, curious if any of this is true and putting my marker/placeholder down in case it turns out to be true.

Just to be clear on pronouns here, are you saying Kanye is in a relationship with a dude?
12690257, yeah
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Mon Jan-05-15 02:31 PM
You google Kanye West's Lover and the dude pops up with tons of stories.

I really didn't want to contribute if not true but I wanted to know how wide spread the rumor is.

12690056, Ye. Can't. Fucking. Sing. Shit is unbearable in places
Posted by Cold Truth, Mon Jan-05-15 12:19 PM
The auto tune saves the day in places, but in others Ye's back-of-the-throat singing is unbelievably bad even with the auto tune.

Ye has a good tone when he’s just talking in a “sing-song” way, but when he tries to go all gospel it’s really too terrible for words.
