12687676, Imagine how many fake people would be in ur life if you were Oprah rich.

Think about the people you have cut off or have just distanced themselves from you for one reason or another. Or even the relationships that have ran their course, or that season of friendship is over.......

Now imagine if you were just stupid rich. How many of those folks would still be trying to remain active in your life?

I ran a quick list in my head, and the people I came up with make me slightly relieved that I'm a working class, regular dude.

Obviously I'm at work and my mind is elsewhere, just indulge me.

12687702, I'd be afraid of anyone thinking they're entitled to anything.

"C'mon bruh, we family!" isn't good enough to be put on payroll. I kinda already know who I would and wouldn't just randomly give money to. I always wonder if a person like Oprah can calculate how much more she has because she curved people that needed her capital for random business ventures.
12687713, Nah, that's a problem for someone with a few mil. Oprah probably has a secretary
Posted by Lardlad95, Wed Dec-31-14 09:57 AM
Who just deals with family issues and a lawyer who specifically terrifies people who try to extort her.

i can't even count the conversations i've had where ppl are talking about someone ELSE'S money with out right adoration
now imagine if you were that person they were talking about and the conservations they must be having with you
no thanks
12688285, at the same time i would feel conflicted the other way, too
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Wed Dec-31-14 08:33 PM
especially if we were talking oprah money. i mean how many people could she hit off with what is, to her, a drop in the bucket and set their asses up for LIFE? would be weird to pick and choose.
12687755, Zero, because I'd call them on it and be an absolute asshole about it
Posted by Cold Truth, Wed Dec-31-14 10:31 AM
I'd tell them to return to their dog shit lives because my team was full before I got paid and that's who I'm riding with in my Ritchie Rich era.

Those people already know where I stand, and I'd probably be more aggressive about it if I had Oprah money.
12687758, when you're that rich you can afford to have fake friends

Really though I have thought about his as well and, on a VERY SMALL SCALE, lived it and seen other people live it on a larger scale.

A couple of my uncles are pretty loaded (hasn't helped me any) and they seemed to go through sort of a round of buyouts. Basically doing one big favor for people and then sort of distancing themselves from them. One of them "loaned" his brother, who lived overseas, $50K and told me "If that's all I have to pay to never have him bother me again, I got off cheap." That was pretty cold, I thought.

A good friend's sister is very, very rich now. She is worth a couple hundred mil and growing, has a very successful career and a very successful company (two separate endeavors). She has handled it with a lot of class and decisively, I must say. Very open and cool where she can be, but very clear and direct in who she spends her time on/with.

I know a guy whose dad owed a bunch of coal mines and shit. Also loaded, tens of millions at least. What a weird ass situation. Just the stuff within his family alone gave me pause about being that rich. But I think mental illness also played a big role, plus the nature in which he made his fortune. Kind of an outlier. I don't feel like he handled things particularly well, but it was a tough situation and a damn near bottomless pit of money, so ...

12688610, I was watching a story abt an NBA star who still hears from his AAU coach
Posted by MistaGoodBar, Fri Jan-02-15 10:50 AM
do you think his AAU coach would GAF about him if he was a pastor, or a supervisor at a call center, or a parole officer or something?
12688619, If he's a positive force in the community, maybe.
Posted by JFrost1117, Fri Jan-02-15 11:10 AM
If he called on some, you made me want to give to the community the way you gave to me. Depends on the relationship, I reckon.
12688623, you know what it is though
Posted by MistaGoodBar, Fri Jan-02-15 11:16 AM
It's that "let me stay close to this dude, he could be big someday" thing.
12689187, That coaches relationship with him may help him prepare/save others
Posted by Castro, Sat Jan-03-15 01:44 PM
a phone call or visit from a superstar could change a young man's life
12689225, Lotta them dudes still depend on the AAU coach to keep them grounded
