We know that it didn't immediately turn into lawlessness. Maybe well down the road there is a noticable uptick in crime. Maybe there is an uptick that isn't noticable. Maybe the uptick is so far down the road that people don't associate it with the work stoppage.

Maybe none of that happens and people realize that Giuliani and his tactics didn't really have a lot to do with the dramatic drop in crime rate.

Maybe they don't do there job and something really ghastly happens and everyone blames the police for dereliction of duty.

Who knows how this is going to turn out. Definitely not the police.

My hope, as should be everyone's hope, is that this does not turn out like the police expect.
