and spurs growth. Me and my boy Chris made up something like this for squats. Shit literally leaves you laid out on the floor thinking about your life. I remember reading Arnold saying when he was way younger, he and his buddies would go out into the woods and stay all night and squat tree stumps until they vomited, lol. Shit gets real.
12685934, muscle confusion, your body gets used to doing the same rep ranges...
Posted by ThaTruth, Mon Dec-29-14 11:08 AM
all the time, to keep spurring growth you have to switch it up especially at that level
12686165, I understand muscle confusion and all that stuff
Posted by kayru99, Mon Dec-29-14 01:38 PM
but, 200 reps of any exercise in a day just seems hella hella risky, especially when you (I'd imagine) you can get the same effect from a decent varied workout.

Hell, the stress you get on the rotator cuff gotta be nuts
12686179, no you can't

>Hell, the stress you get on the rotator cuff gotta be nuts

niggas been doing "burn outs" since before the slave ships
lifting so much that you can't even curl a can of campbells soup

we'd do the shit in high school
do sets of 50 curls
decreasing the weight down to you cant even lift your own palm

or we'd do "sevens"
that would be:
7 full curls
7 half curls up top
7 half curls on bottom
7 full curls

after 7 sets of THOSE your arms will be TOAST
but the rock of a bicep that you'd create would be WELL worth it

it's all about OVER extending the muscle group
it freaks out and dont know what to do so it just GROWS

you never did 200 push ups in a day?
or 500 crunches?

some times i wornder how okp dudes was raised
12686434, LMAO!!!!!!!
Posted by Dstl1, Mon Dec-29-14 03:56 PM
.
12686730, 7s, or 200 pushups is a damn sight different than 200 reps on bench
Posted by kayru99, Mon Dec-29-14 10:42 PM
Starting at 245, pyramiding down and back up again.

I ain't in jail, and I ain't playing ball no more.

But do you though

12686778, who says it has to be 245? do it with 40% of your 1RM
Posted by deejboram, Tue Dec-30-14 12:19 AM
>Starting at 245, pyramiding down and back up again.

there is no way i could lift what he lifts.
dude does 405 for reps
like 10-14 reps
if your 1RM is 315 then do 135
12686363, except the strongest athletes in the world do the same exercises
Posted by J_Stew, Mon Dec-29-14 03:13 PM
Day after day, month after month, year after year, with slight variations in volume and intensity.
12686399, those are PL what about BB tho?
Posted by deejboram, Mon Dec-29-14 03:32 PM
>Day after day, month after month, year after year, with
>slight variations in volume and intensity.

we know doing that many reps aint for "strength"
12686650, those dudes are bodybuilders so yeah it's about growth
Posted by J_Stew, Mon Dec-29-14 07:44 PM
but even bodybuilders would tell you they built their size from getting really strong at the basics, and the fancy stuff is just some icing on the cake.

there are some pretty incredible transformations of super heavyweight powerlifters switching over to bodybuilding and once they drop their body fat they look just like bodybuilders despite years of only doing the basic power lifts for low reps plus some assistance work.
12686537, lol, nobody is say you HAVE TO do 200 reps, geez, only on OKP

10 x 20 @ 245 for 200 reps?!

cmon man

Posted by ThaTruth, Mon Dec-29-14 12:08 PM
>10 x 20 @ 245 for 200 reps?!
>
>cmon man

he has ten 10lb weights on each side, does 10 reps, drops 10lbs off each side, does another 10, etc...

so its something like:

245x10
225x10
205x10
185x10
165x10
145x10
125x10
105x10
85x10
65x10

then back up in reverse pyramid fashion...

12686183, im sure 245 is like 30-40% of his 1RM so thats like you using 95lbs
Posted by deejboram, Mon Dec-29-14 01:51 PM
>10 x 20 @ 245 for 200 reps?!

>cmon man

you're not tearing shit with such light weights
the muscles just become fatigued and filled with lactic acid
they begin to burn
it's the same as if he did a plank for like 30 minutes straight

i'm sure you can lift 95lbs 200 times if you tried it
12686257, I'm sure neither you nor I can lift 95# 200x.
Posted by Binlahab, Mon Dec-29-14 02:26 PM
Make a video of you doing that, time stamped and I'll log off til summer 2015.

Bet?

12686341, in 20mins time like he did in the video. i'd like a larger wager please.

and it will be a bet.
me, lift 95lbs in 10 rep increments
within 20mins

bet?

this nigga didn't just haul off and lift 245x200 straight reps

look at the video
even at 65lbs he would do 3 reps
stop
do two reps
stop
do 4 reps
etc...
12686429, 125# 200x in less than 20 min. if you do I'm out til May.
Posted by Binlahab, Mon Dec-29-14 03:53 PM

you do realise he did not lift 245x100
he did
245x10
225x10
205x10
195x10
185x10
185x10
195x10
205x10
225x10
245x10

i can do them same reps starting at 135

you in or not?
what i win?

dude's max is prolly 550+
so he is working with 45% of his 1RM

for overall motivation to get off the couch and workout, but in no shape form or fashion am I motivated to want to lift that amount of weight. Just doesn't seem functional to lift to that extent. It is an accomplishment to lift and stay as big as those guys are, but seems excessive IMO. One dude that impresses me since the majority of the stuff I've seen from him is bodyweight stuff is Mike Medrano. Does insane bodyweight circuits and looks as if he's peeling a banana going by the expression on his face.

I can't throw up links since I'm at work, but his videos will make you humble, old country style.

Posted by J_Stew, Mon Dec-29-14 10:58 PM
They can do most of the sick Bodyweight stuff but also bench 350+ deadlift 600ish all at around 5'10" 195-200 and they can fight. Medrano is incredible though, he's just a little on the small side.

12686624, so how much SHOULD i lift then?......
Posted by murderbear, Mon Dec-29-14 06:50 PM
i mean, obviously 200 reps is for a cat that lives in the gym and thinks he/she can do it safely.

but for a cat like me that just wants to be doing *something* and see some change in body composition from it, whats the science?

3 sets of 6 reps? 8 reps? 10 reps?

4 sets?

i mean, it all depends on the weight and the exercise, but in general should i be walking away comfortably or getting carried away and placed gently in my locker til i can walk again?

for instance, i started benching, like recently....im a big dude, but i cant bench for shit...maybe long arms, weak chest, tear in my shoulder, whatever

so i got 185 on it, going for 3 sets of 6

got halfway through the third set and my man on the other bench came over to help get it off me.

so, should i keep at that?

or should i stick to 135, where i can prolly do 5 sets of 10?

Screw waiting until next year. I started the day after Christmas. One of the reasons why I love Crossfit... At noon, I'm going to run for an hour straight, and this evening, I'm doing this:

WOD 12 30 14
A. Est. 15RM OHS (Overhead Squats are a weakness of mine)
B. For Time :
21 DL (225/155) (love DeadLifts...my 1RM is 270, but I haven't tested it lately)
21 T2B (Gotta work on these)
2 MU (SO NOT READY FOR THESE YET!)
15 DL
15 T2B
4 MU
9 DL
9 T2B
6 MU

And, as a bonus, I am going to do 500 double unders.

Yes...us females get it in, too. I've transformed my body. The before and after pics are coming in a few weeks. :)

im trying to get my ambercrombie and fitch on so thinking about concentrating on a hypertrophycentric regimen

what you got?
12701683, 200 reps on 1 exercise? lol no.

if i was gonna try this i would try 200 reps on different chest exercises ..that makes more sense.
