12685368, What are the best music festivals to attend?
Posted by Doronmonkflake, Sat Dec-27-14 10:21 PM
I wanna go to one or two next year. I was considering EDC in NJ because of all the spectacle. If it was different music, I'd be amped, but that Mmcha Mmcha business gets old for me real quick.

Is there any gathering you guys have been to that has an awesome walkaround feel AND music that won't make me a Clockwork Orange?
12685480, I went to the Governors Ball this past June and Had a blast

but i think i'm too old and don't have the right friends for it, so i probably never will.

i've gone to coachella and lollapalooza, and they were cool, but i will probably never go to either again. baltimore had the virgin festival, also cool but a lot of the same. i grew up going to hfstival and also got to go to the tibetan freedom concert, which were perfect for me at that time. the festivals that really interest me these days are in europe, mainly england. eventually i'll make myself go to the local (dc) festival called sonic circuits, but i'm waiting for another good lineup.

12685578, Made in America in Philly is hella fun

Lots of hoes there.

As someone else stated above, Gov Ball in NYC is dope as well.

Rock the Bells was dope (RIP).

The older I get, the less appealing Bonnaroo is.

But, I am making it a part of my bucket list to do full VIP at Coachella. They always seem to have the dopest line-up.

12685597, I really loved treasure island out in San Fran. I only went once tho

Two stages, great mix of artists from hip hop to alternative to Edm and have this really cool Dj section where everyone gets head phones to hear what the Dj is spinning but only in ur headphones. Silent disco I think is what it's called

Good food and other merch vendors, great crowd and great views of San fran from the island

12685628, come back to Afropunk!

12685677, if you were ever at all interested in visiting Montreal (canadian women? french women? :)
Posted by upUPNorth, Sun Dec-28-14 10:13 PM
their Jazz Festival, or Osheaga, are pretty safe bets.

The Jazz Fest is pretty big, probably their biggest musical tourist draw, the kind that will have headliners that aren't strictly Jazz Artists like getting to see Smokey Robinson in Toronto's once, so it should please good taste.

I've been to Osheaga once, the year Black Keys headlined Sunday and Snoop Dogg (the Lion thing had just happened) headlined Saturday, so a good variety but predictable hip lineups. It's still in the city enough, being on an island on the river, to enjoy the outdoors without having to go as far away. I can't really compare experiences to anything else though.
12685682, I love montreal. That may be the move.

Gov Ball, Made in America (philly), & Roots Picnic have been my favorite so far
12685743, Ugh I hate festivals
Posted by Deacon Blues, Mon Dec-29-14 04:51 AM

Bunch of standing around a bunch of drunk people, but I'm old

I'm at the point now I hate opening acts, I just want to go see who I came to see and go hone.

But with that said the Jazz festival in New Orleans was fun but I went years ago
12685881, Gov Ball for sure

I go every year, it's always a great time... except for that 1 year when there was a tropical storm, lol.

I'm trying out Eaux Claires Festival this year -- Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver) is curating it along with Aaron Dessner of The National... 2 days of camping, music and art.. can't wait to see the lineup there.

I have friends that swear by Bonnaroo, but I just haven't brought myself to make the decision to go to Tennessee.

Same with Coachella.

I have a few friends that love Lolla as well.

Made in America is always dope too.

Also, Boston Calling had a pretty decent lineup last year.
