I just realized (I'm late) I got him a phone in august for his birthday for 600. I'm financing it but it is still costing me 600 dollars. He has never spent even half of that on a gift for me. But he bought the watch accessory for himself for 150 using my discount. The way I look at it, if he can't save money up to buy a nice gift for me, then that phone should be his birthday, christmas, and next birthday gift.
