12682996, Anyone buying their boss a gift for X-mas?
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Tue Dec-23-14 10:15 AM
My wife use to do it. Someone who works for me did it last year and it was unexpected. I didn't buy anything in return for her and I she didn't give me a gift this year.

I am wondering though if I should have bought my boss a gift this year?

Anyone does it? Are there rules of etiquette for this?

I am guessing it depends alot on what sort of industry you are in.

12683020, The whole staff put in on one gift for our boss...
Posted by StephBMore, Tue Dec-23-14 10:29 AM
he needed a new desk light so we bought him one...and we collectively gave him a birthday gift, but since I've been here he's given us presents each year on Christmas ($100 or more each person, his staff is 10 ppl). So yeah we can get him something.

Edit: this is the only boss I have purchased a gift for.
12683031, See the fact that no one organized a pitch-in either means no one is giving

a gift or they are going for dolo. Don't want to be left out if people are going for dolo.

12683035, for what?
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Tue Dec-23-14 10:35 AM
things they didnt get us
- company gift
- christmas bonus
- friday after christmas or new years off (cmon were not gonna be doing anything anyway)
- company paid christmas party (they made us all bring stuff then they STILL bitched about buying drinks)

nah breh
12683038, gaddam you don't get the 26th or 2nd off?
Posted by veritas, Tue Dec-23-14 10:36 AM
that's kinda rough.
12683107, technically, I don't get those days off either.
Posted by tariqhu, Tue Dec-23-14 11:10 AM
so of course, I'm taking PTO. I think most businesses will only be closed on the official holiday, but not the days before/after.
12683112, around here we don't get XME or NYE but we do get the Fridays
Posted by veritas, Tue Dec-23-14 11:11 AM
so I'm taking PTO on XME and NYE.

Seems like the way my company's doing it makes the most sense. As BrooklynWhat says, nobody's doing shit on those Fridays.
12683108, im honestly not sure why were even open those days
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Tue Dec-23-14 11:10 AM
nothings going to get done. all our vendors are closed and production wont be here so...
12683037, I send my personal clients a bottle of champagne for the New Year
Posted by deejboram, Tue Dec-23-14 10:36 AM

my boss is near chi-town and I'm in atl. I've never met him in person. I probably still wouldn't if we were in the same office.

now, if I worked for a small office, I might consider getting the boss something.
12683395, Here's how I view it: Your boss isn't giving you a "gift"
Posted by janey, Tue Dec-23-14 01:30 PM
Whatever your boss gives you is in the realm of "holiday bonus" (which is why I insist that my boss give our secretary cash and not something useless). You don't give your boss a bonus, so you don't give him/her a "gift."

I also tell my secretary and others that bonuses flow downhill so they shouldn't even dream of giving me anything. I gave my secretary a nice crisp $100.

Posted by sectachrome86, Tue Dec-23-14 01:50 PM
I realize that once you do it sets a precedent for following years, but I don't care. I'm disgruntled.
