The only reason there was ANY narrative around Mike Brown being provocative in the situation in the immediate aftermath of his death was because he was a Black man.

Those police officers were officers who had been locking up Black men for years. That could be the first line in the story... "minding their own business" specifically means participating in a system that locks up Black and Brown people.

That's not to give an argument around whether anything that happened was okay or not, but that this argument about Mike Brown potentially provoking the situation ONLY exists because he was a Black non-cop civilian.
