12680986, whats the science on getting great deals in vegas?
Posted by dba_BAD, Fri Dec-19-14 04:30 PM
I always had the impression that if you wanted to stay on the strip for cheap and didn't mind a little grime, you could do circus circus or the flamingo and basically spend next to nothing

poking around online, while they're certainly the cheaper alternative to other strip hotels, I'm still not finding those $30-$100 rooms I thought I'd heard about. Everything's more like $150-$200

This is for the spring, so maybe a) I'm just too far out to get the good deals, or b) spring is just pricey?

Is there some proven strategy I'm not up on? How do people do Vegas (the strip, pref) on the cheap?
12680993, the easiest way is to have a card and points at a major casino
Posted by veritas, Fri Dec-19-14 04:39 PM
You don't need to have a lot of points to start getting low end perks, you just need an active card with some.

The most convenient for most people is the Harrah's/Horseshoe family.

I used to play a little poker at the Horseshoe casinos near Louisville and Chicago. That would get me discounted or even free nights at places like Bally's in Vegas.

The amount of discount is also going to be determined by how major of a Vegas night it is. You're not going to be getting cheap or free nights the weekend of a big fight because you have basic status.
12681087, aint no casinos around here, nor in my immediate future before trip

:/

thanks tho
12681098, i'm in the same boat.
Posted by veritas, Fri Dec-19-14 06:28 PM
see if you can go to totalrewards.com and sign up for a card online.

i don't think you can, but it might be worth a shot if you don't mind staying at bally's or the rio or one of harrah's other properties.
12681100, ok cool will do thx

Posted by veritas, Fri Dec-19-14 06:36 PM
didn't even have to use my credits, just free.

Went through some old emails and confirmed it.

But that was also on a Tuesday and Wednesday 4 years ago.

Posted by Ryan M, Fri Dec-19-14 05:18 PM
Luxor being the one that's OKAY, but Rivera and Circus Circus are two of the biggest pieces of shit on the strip.

12681056, he specifically mentioned it in the op
Posted by John Forte, Fri Dec-19-14 05:33 PM
And said it was 150-200
12681062, haha i know i just thought they had those super cheapo rooms
Posted by dba_BAD, Fri Dec-19-14 05:39 PM
i just wanna be on the strip i dont really care abt the room as long as it's not diseased im good
12681102, Circus Circus' cheap rooms get booked up *quick*
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Fri Dec-19-14 06:41 PM
The Sky tower is their cheapest joints and they go fast, especially during the holidays. We stayed there one Christmas and had to go for the West Tower, which is a lil more expensive, 'cause Sky Tower was booked up until after the new year. The Casino Tower is their most expensive and you can almost always get a room there.

Shit ain't SO bad at Circus Circus, but it damned sure ain't all luxurious like Aria, Palazzo, or Bellagio.

(edit) almost forgot, despite being a hotel aimed at families, Circus Circus has the best steakhouse on the strip. Every time we go, we get reminded that The Steakhouse at Circus Circus has won "Best Steak House" something like 13-14 years in a row.

If you're willing to drive 15 minutes to the strip from your hotel, the M Resort is the absofucklutely best thing out here. It is as nice as anything on the strip, much cheaper thank hotels that can rival it, with service that is just unbelievable. We're locals, and we stay there just to get away at least twice a year.

An example of how good the service is. The employees somehow know your name. Like, the person in the cafe will just be like "Hello Mr. Smith". No clue how they pull that one off. Happens almost every time we stay there. It is both appreciated, and a bit creepy in an awesome way.

BTW, the drive is really not bad at all. There's usually not any traffic.
12681079, thanks for the tip, will look into it
Posted by dba_BAD, Fri Dec-19-14 06:04 PM
some of the appeal to doing a night in vegas at all was the whole out drinking on the strip experience (ive never been), but iono maybe for something great maybe it wouldnt be a dealbreaker

thanks
12681048, dont sleep on the Flamingo
Posted by RobOne4, Fri Dec-19-14 05:21 PM
me and the wife stayed there and it was really really nice. Especially for its location. Usually you have to stay at the end of the strip for prices like that. But prime location, good price, nice rooms, and affordable gambling.

also $30-100? WTF! You are lucky to be anywhere near the strip. I would say $125-150 is a more doable price.
12681060, haha you dont see those ads for $27/night tho? im trynna hop on that!
Posted by dba_BAD, Fri Dec-19-14 05:37 PM
but yeah i realize those are likely restricted to like the one least desirable travel day with hella unfortunate parameters

i'm only gonna be there one night in and one night out on either end of an epic bryce/zion/grand canyon etc trip, dont care much about the room, location more important
12681071, RE: haha you dont see those ads for $27/night tho? im trynna hop on that!
Posted by RobOne4, Fri Dec-19-14 05:44 PM
when I make a trip we go off season and try and do a sunday - tuesday deal. Friday and Saturday prices are a lot higher. As are prime travel time. But yeah since you are going one day why not try old town? Prices used to reasonable as hell there.
12681057, I was there this spring and paid around $50 - $65 a night
Posted by Atillah Moor, Fri Dec-19-14 05:34 PM
I think. Definitely under $90. Stayed at the flamingo, hard rock, and one other I can't remember. I found my deals through a Vegas site while I was there.
12681063, see this is what im talking abt
Posted by dba_BAD, Fri Dec-19-14 05:40 PM
i kinda want to stay at the flamingo
12681058, You can get $40-$70 rooms mid-week.
Posted by Ryan M, Fri Dec-19-14 05:35 PM
Weekend, almost never.
12681066, can you not get mediocre rooms for free midweek anymore?
Posted by veritas, Fri Dec-19-14 05:42 PM
not even for a big baller like yourself?
12681193, After over a decade of going to Vegas....
Posted by Ryan M, Fri Dec-19-14 11:38 PM
I just got my first comped room. Probably won't use it. But yeah, I never used to concentrate my play in certain casino groups with the players card. I do now. Shit works.

Also....faaaaaaaaar from a baller, ha.
12681069, yeah this is what im figuring. it's a weekend :/

12681072, i dunno how great they are for deals but the Downtown hotels
Posted by SoWhat, Fri Dec-19-14 05:44 PM
are supposedly cheaper than the ones on the Strip. i stayed @ the Golden Nugget a couple yrs ago and it was fine. i didn't pay - it was a business trip.

traveling from GN to the Strip in taxis was kinda annoying though.
12681090, if i can have my druthers ill be ON the strip
Posted by dba_BAD, Fri Dec-19-14 06:22 PM
i think the lesson of this post is to just keep digging around, and let go of those $40/night dreams lol
12681349, We almost stayed at one of those Fremont hotels
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Sat Dec-20-14 02:37 PM
Glad we didn't. We did visit the Freemont Experience and it's cool and all, but nothing like the Strip.

You can take a bus to the strip, but I'd rather just be there.

12681095, depends on what's going on that weekend.
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Fri Dec-19-14 06:26 PM
If there's any major fight or a holiday the weekend/week you're trying to stay, the prices shoot up, especially for a major fight.

Circus Circus (where we stay all the time) ain't really that expensive per-night. Riviera is directly across the street and shouldn't be that expensive either. Just north of those two is SLS, the new joint where the Sahara was, and Stratosphere. Those 4 should be the cheapest, though SLS might be trying to get a lil more 'cause it just opened back in August.

Also, staying -just- off the strip is cheaper. Rio, BlueGreen, Mardi Gras, Rumor, Hooters, and the like are cheaper and not too bad of a walk to the strip.

12681151, Flamingo and Harrah's are in a prime location
Posted by Playa_Politician, Fri Dec-19-14 09:07 PM
circus circus and stratosphere are bit away from everything, you'll be catching a few cabs. we stayed and Harrah's last time and only had a need for a cab once (to the strip clubs)
12681226, 1800Hotels.com and http://www.cheapovegas.com
Posted by handle, Sat Dec-20-14 02:35 AM
I used 1800Hotels.Com and got a 2 HUGE rooms in the Hard Rock for $60 a night for both , or $30 each.

They run specials there from time to time, I see nothing that great there right now, but it's worth checking back after the holiday.

http://www.cheapovegas.com has stuff too.
12681264, damn a week to late but i just passed on a deal
