because:
a) there's plenty of original ideas starring black folks similar or related to whatever it is we're being plopped into.

b) if it _is_ the "black version of", it generally has to come out stellar to balance out much of the criticism that will come its way. It can't be just okay, or in the case of this film, as mediocre as the 1982 one was received to be (there's a 1999 Disney TV version that's better than both of these, which is a shame).

TBH, after reviewing looking at some of the promo stuff and listening to clips of the revised song score on YouTube...it's a bit of a stretch to call this the "black version of Annie", even if the lead character is a black version of Annie. This is very much the (aggressively) 2014 iTunes/pop radio version of "Annie".
