terrible reviews doesn't necessarily mean people won't go see it.

That being said, however, a $17 mil opening weekend for a film that cost $65 mil to make (+ God only knows how much in marketing since they've been running ads since March) is not good. That's not even "black movie" good (which is $20 mil opening weekend and a sharp drop off afterwards).

Also, I would strongly argue that Black kids ought to be able to see themselves in quality pictures, and we as a "people" need not be so desperate to blindly support a studio picture I haven't heard a single good thing about (not even from Black people) when there are far more effective things we can do to help Black kids and their self-esteem.
