Even I was a little bit like "really?" Obviously I'd love to see more musicals with black stars, but the idea of recycling Annie and Daddy Warbucks - characters with absolutely no appeal or recognition to anyone under 35, maybe even 45 - and making them Black seemed...I dunno, a little disingenuous to me.

Once I saw the first trailers, I understood better the direction they were going in with the modernization and it seemed like a good direction to go in. The critics seem to feel differently after having seen the final film, however.
