12678796, Ask Mongo personal questions in this post.
Posted by Mongo, Wed Dec-17-14 05:07 PM
I feel like we've lost touch, Okayplayer.com

Enough so that even the basic guidelines of trollishness aren't making the grade.

So feel free to ask questions. I'll probably answer between tonight and tomorrow.

I'll be forthright.

Probably too forthright.

the thing about you not receiving credit.
did you let it simmer silently inside you forever, or did you corner someone in an elevator?
12679012, Oh.
Posted by Mongo, Wed Dec-17-14 08:05 PM
Literally the next morning, they laid us off.

Then came Union arbitration.

And I was taken off the table.

And given a raise which takes effect on Jan 1.

In the end, I cornered my boss in his office. I used to work with the guy at the New York Post. Italian, from Bensonhurst. We spoke plainly. The word 'fuck' was used as noun, verb, adjective and pronoun.
12679060, damn. that would make me feel good as hell.

12679295, Incredible good fortune. I'm really grateful for that.

>how has parenting changed you?
>and your way of life? more challenging? easier?

It's changed everything. How I prioritize, how I think, how I behave, even how I speak.

I don't know a single decent father who doesn't want to crack the world open and make everything safe, perfect and right for their child. I think about my finances in a much bigger picture, literally ALL sticker shock evaporated when I got my first 10,000 USD bill from the hospital just for C-section anesthetic -- and that was WITH insurance. Think about neighborhoods very differently. I used to not really give a shit if where I lived was sketchy. Since having a kid and moving to Inwood, there have been two drive-bys that were entirely too close and personal to my liking, and for the first time, I was actually scared, because it's something I can't protect my kid from. Which leads to the next thing, about how cruel and merciless society is, and that while I think of my son as this unique, wonderful human being, the rest of the world kind of just sees him as another thing to grind down. I've become more disciplined, because if I can't do that, how can I ask the boy to. It's changed the dynamic of my whole family. I'm closer with people I've spent my whole life running from, and it's owed to this great little kid who's charmed even terminally unlikeable dickwads into tolerable human beings. It's a harder life in some ways... but immensely more satisfying. Immeasurably more satisfying.

>
>when are we hanging out?

Oy. With the hanging out.

Let me finish grad school!
12679399, at the rate you're going, your son will be a grandfather

...he got a babysitter into bed the other night.

"Come watch Guardians of the Galaxy with me."

We only have it where you can watch it in our bedroom.

So we come home.

He's got her in bed, laying on her chest with the shit-eatingest grin I've ever seen a human being have EVAR.

Sneaky little %^er

It's still weird and awkward @ the office, but my sensitive fucking ego has healed and I'm back to apathetically collecting checks. There are some decent projects coming down the pipes, so I can live with being a social leper for a few hours out of every day.

I thought the interview went well. There was follow-up with my contact there, I've gone through the official channels to get my name and resume in the system, now it's sit back and wait. Fingers crossed. It's an interesting, challenging gig that I think I'd be a good fit for.

you could annoyingly enthusiastically collect checks to really put a foot in their ass
make it rain on them
and pick up every single bill
but unions work as well i suppose

12679273, You been to Rebounds NYC or District 12 yet?
Posted by T Reynolds, Thu Dec-18-14 09:31 AM
Went up last weekend. D12 was pretty nice.

Also, that new boxy building on Broadway that was constructed in Pennsylvania in separate box units in Pennsylvania and then transported up? I thought only brooklyn did shit like that

http://ny.curbed.com/places/4857-broadway
12679314, I like District 12 a lot actually. Moreso in summer tho
Posted by Mongo, Thu Dec-18-14 10:05 AM
The back patio is great, or even the balcony, and the food's pretty good. I keep hearing from neighbors they've had bad experiences there, but I've always had good service and food. Good atmosphere. They've had some cool little events there.

I just can't forget the opening night, when you had hookers and trannies across the street, plying their trade in front of God, the cops and Dyckman Farmhouse.
12679319, Yeah the backyard is crazy
Posted by T Reynolds, Thu Dec-18-14 10:07 AM
I'm still tryna confirm whether that one bartender got the fake backyard though

Cause...

But I liked the food, layout, everything basically. Great place to watch a game.

12679326, Listen, man....
Posted by Mongo, Thu Dec-18-14 10:11 AM
There's a 'doctor's' office in my lobby that does a brisk trade in 'liposculpture', and every fucking morning when I take the kid to school, there is a line going out the God-damned door to get in the see him.

So many fake butts out here.

And it's weird, because you either have these voluptuous fertility Goddesses walking around, or Zoe Saldanas with the lanky feline sexitude, or the troll-faced C.H.U.D. women who clubfoot their way around the neighborhood collecting equally inbred gooftards as baby daddies.

But nothing dead in the middle of just AIIGHT.

Also? Dominican girls with dimples. I have neighbors that... man alive. MAN ALIVE. Monogamy is totally unfair.
12679346, lmao
Posted by T Reynolds, Thu Dec-18-14 10:26 AM
yeah man

my girl don't even like me venturing into Hamilton Heights

I said I'm going uptown to watch football at my friend's friend's bar

she was like '.................'

it was tough

YOU EARNED IT.

MAINLY MY FILTHY IMAGINATION, which is fueled by my polyamorous Tinder-addict neighbor who kind of wants to bang me and my wife, and various flirty encounters that I have to punch myself in the crotch to not respond to.

Women are awesome.

But my God, do you all SUCK.
12679345, does this polyamorous Tinder addict have a name?

12679336, Which aspects of NYC induce the most rage for you?
Posted by stattic, Thu Dec-18-14 10:18 AM

Whether it be changing conditions, people, or both.
12679352, TOURISTS.
Posted by Mongo, Thu Dec-18-14 10:31 AM
Just because they gawk like OH LOOK ELECTRICITY AND TALL BUILDINGS WE DON'T HAVE THOSE IN MICHIGAN

I piss and moan about gentrification, but the city changes -- you either move with it or move out.
12679445, Do you think you resigned yourself to gentrification
Posted by stattic, Thu Dec-18-14 11:25 AM

because you realized your hypocrisy as a participant? I mean that in earnest because we're not necessarily willing or intentional participants in that process.

Funny, I have never been bothered by tourists. I didn't run into them for the most part other than during commuting. Plus, some of the best times I had in NYC involved tourists.

Partially. My wife insists that we're not because we moved to our neighborhood from worse conditions in an adjacent neighborhood, and aren't explicitly White and/or Middle Class. My response is that we're both professionals, both have Master degrees, and in the Great Gentrification Invasion, mixed couples are often the vanguard, right after 'Artists' and Gay White Males. Once I came to terms with that, it made me sad, because I feel like the city has lost some of its soul, and it's getting harder to find a decent pastrami sandwich and/or morir sonando, but then I realized I can order thai food and mofongo on Seamless and finally live somewhere that FreshDirect will actually deliver to.

Sadly, I work Midtown, and they're inescapable. Also THE WORST HUMAN BEINGS EVER.
