12678035, Wait, Wacka Flocka became a...lyricist?!?!?
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Wed Dec-17-14 10:40 AM
The dude who said, "“I’m not into being lyrical.”!?!?!

http://ambrosiaforheads.com/2014/12/waka-flocka-flame-snatches-j-coles-beat-asserts-his-rap-skills-audio/

Not only is it kinda a fire verse, but dude is dropping some borderline conscious shit!?!?!

I love it, I love it, I love it!!!!!

Posted by Fishgrease, Wed Dec-17-14 11:17 AM
to NY to channel this kinda energy though.

He'd have never done this w/Gucci.
12678260, he and his mother are from queens, right?

12680705, yep, and he repped that fact proudly in his music
Posted by Dr Claw, Fri Dec-19-14 01:33 PM
(as in the fact that he mentioned that he's from Queens but lives in Riverdale, GA)
12688855, isnt that a requirement if you are from queens?

Way better than I expected. Definitely not Rakim but far better than I've ever heard outta dude; I'm impressed.

I've said this before on this board over in The Lesson: A lot of these newer rappers seem to switch their style up depending on the beat they're rhyming over. I cited Mac Miller, Schoolboy Q, and Lil B as examples where over "commercial" beats these dudes are utter trash, but throw any of them over a backpacker-ish/90's hip hop beat and suddenly they can write decent lyrics.

Guess I can add Waka Flocka Flame to that list.

I made a Google playlist with all of his lyrical cuts (Molasses, Knife Fight, Fountain of Youth, a few others)...if that's really him writing, he's holding back in a major way. Especially in light of the trash that was Hood Billionaire.
12679169, There's this dude from Florida....
Posted by The Wordsmith, Thu Dec-18-14 01:01 AM
...who dropped an album back in the late 90s or early aughts who had Rick as a guest on a couple of tracks. Rick was a lot more lyrical back then compared to his mainstream output.

Since 1976
12678259, yeah this is definitely suprising.

12678261, if he start rapping like this all of the time i will legit be a fan.

shit don't gotta be all syllable lyrical to be nice
12679200, Niggas would be hype if their favorite rapper spit the SAME verse.

12679224, I'm from the Era where these lyrics would have been common.
Posted by Case_One, Thu Dec-18-14 08:41 AM
Peep what I'm saying. The song is good, but I'm not going to celebrate what I expect to hear. Think about it. Rap is so BAD now that we celebrate the common skill of an entire era like it's revolutionary now.

Sorry, homes. I'm not going to go cheer a dude for doing what he's suppose to do on a basic level.

i celebrate any instance of shit that sounds good to my ears
i just dig music like that
i like his energy coupled with the bars and i like what he is saying
im not going to run out and automatically buy his shit
but i appreciate the verse and think he sounds dope on it
i just think its funny that ppl are that cynical
i get why he rather do that other shit he does (altho i don't fk with it at all)
12688743, I love rap, but this is basic to my ears. Not bad, just basic.
Posted by Case_One, Fri Jan-02-15 02:27 PM
Basic is still good. But it's juts not great.

they just don't make shit that you like. they could w/ ease if they really wanted to.
12688715, See #2
Posted by PoppaGeorge, Fri Jan-02-15 02:05 PM
I think the "commercial" garbage they usually spit comes with ease, better stuff takes more time and I'm pretty sure that's where a lot of the trash on the radio comes from: Why work hard to write some halfway decent rhymes when I can slap together some bullshit, mumble through half of my verses, and get caked up?

12689089, Great to hear him actually rap
Posted by EAS, Sat Jan-03-15 12:57 AM
But I ain't ready to put him into the Talib Kweli/Slaughter House/Eminem/Pharoahe Monch/MF Doom category yet.

And something gives me the feeling that that shit was ghost written.

No matter....good to see him give a nod to real rappers. Hopefully we'll hear more like this from him in the near future.
12689134, Sounds like some 90s shyt in a good way tho
