12676475, WHY are you using Spotify instead of Google Play Music?
Posted by FLUIDJ, Tue Dec-16-14 06:41 AM
stop that insanity.
please.

You can browse online.
You can upload your OWN collection and access it via your account.
You can SHARE individual songs or entire albums with your friends.
You can browse and catch music for offline listening.
You can save music directly to your devices internal or external storage (micro SD card that is).
It works very well.
Has an extensive library.
Has a radio option similar to Spotify if that's your thing.
You DON'T need to have Facebook to use it.
You DON'T need to have Google+ account to use it.

I won't even mention iTunes...don't see how ANYBODY uses THAT crap. It's the Internet Explorer if Macs...

It works...it works WELL...VERY well.

here ya go. $9.99/month.

12676477, spotify can do all those things....

Posted by FLUIDJ, Tue Dec-16-14 08:26 AM
When they drug their feet releasing an Android app I finally dropped them for Spotify for a hot minute, then moved on to Google Play.
I tried Beats for like a day....something about it didn't click...or I was just already All IN with Google play.
.
12677146, Beats for mee too
Posted by handle, Tue Dec-16-14 02:16 PM
Their search engine isn't great, and discover of new releases isn't great either..

But the curated playlists are really good.

And you can pay with iTunes dollars - and those go on sale 25% sometimes (once or twice a year.)

Plus, Spotify seems like its run by dickwads.
12676491, when I firest tried it it was a resource hog.

The spotify app is cleaner than the Google Play app but it kills your battery. The desktop is just as bad. It slows everything down and eats up your battery (laptop). This is on a fairly new MBP. Can't even run it on an older PC laptop.

even my wells fargo bank app needs to have complete access of my phone (gps/location, if im talkin on it, photos, etc)

i dont listen to enough new music like that in order to be hip enough for all this
i got pandora on my phone and that's enough for me

12676533, I need to give google play my CREDIT CARD info??? BIG no no!!!!
Posted by deejboram, Tue Dec-16-14 09:02 AM
why i gotta give my PAYMENT info to listen to FREE music???

shit like that sends read flags to me
with all this identity theft im not so quick to put my financial info out there like that
plus, i be forgetting about these accts and dont want no fine print to where they start charging me after a while

that happened to me with myfico
i checked my credit ONE MONTH
then wasnt til like 7 months later i found they'd been charging me all them months AFTER i had a CANCELLATION CONFIRMATION
then it took 45 mins on hold trying to get my money back
12676608, do you not have an Android device with a Google Play account?
Posted by FLUIDJ, Tue Dec-16-14 10:03 AM
I can see this being an issue if you never buy apps, only get free apps.... that's me btw...I've only ever paid for like 3 apps probably... if there's not a free version of an app I like...i'll seek out an alternative free version with similar functionality.
12676634, no I have a Samsung S3 and only use google play store for free stuff
Posted by deejboram, Tue Dec-16-14 10:17 AM
i dont use my phone like that
i have a few banking/credit union apps so i can check my balances/move funds
i have the paypal app
i have har.com app to search for homes
i have matrix.itasoftware.com app to search for flights

that's it

im behind the times dude
anything asking me for credit card info i decline and dont use
i cant even send my wife pics in Google Hangouts no more cause i dont feel like creating a google+ acct for that
so i just send pics MMS and we chat in hangouts all day

too many fuckin accts, man

12676511, funny thing is, I have a spotify account, got it before they required Facebook
Posted by FLUIDJ, Tue Dec-16-14 08:44 AM
but I never bothered with it because Pandora was better at the time and I was still a Zune/Xbox music subscriber. Those two fit the bill better and Spotify was just a novelty with less features than I already had in Pandora & Xbox Music....

Once Google Play came through and really enhanced their offering I was all in with them and Spotify was STILL not 100% worth being invested in.

I just logged in to Spotify after making this post though...wanted to check it out again and see if I was missing anything.....

I don't appear to be.

Posted by Rjcc, Tue Dec-16-14 10:03 AM
I've been using it since it launched.

it's never pulled me away from Spotify.

I make playlists, I include my own MP3s, they sync between devices, and I can even do control across devices -- desktop to phone to tablet etc.

I understand what Google Music does, and what it does well, and I still prefer Spotify.

pick the one I want to play it on and control it

phone. tablet. pc.

I believe that with the last update they don't even have to be on the same wifi network to start. previously you could do it over diff networks, but you had to start on the same wifi. I often play my music in the car from my ipad, but I can control it from my phone.

i tried to get into it because i didnt care for Spotify over Pandora

Google Play kept having streaming issues. at first i thought it was just me/my phone, looked it up and seen that apparently it was a major issue they've been trying to fix

they may have fixed it now though

in the meantime ive been using Amazon and Pandora

with it because I like the Beats interface better than the others. That's really what it's about at this point - all the streaming services pretty much offer the same library and features. It's just a question of what interface/app do you prefer to use.

Extensive library, good features (I dig the video sync with Youtube they just intro'd), and they're doing better with content...even featuring some mixtapes. Only thing I don't like are the gaps in their library - some of my favorite albums are missing (ie The Listening, Raphael Saadiq as Ray-Ray and a few others).

12676919, A LOT of disposable music these days. A LOT...
Posted by FLUIDJ, Tue Dec-16-14 12:22 PM
Nice way to get a taste of things without the full on investment.

I was burned SOOOOOOooo many times with CD purchases from like 2000 - 2008 or so...was spending waaaay more than $7.99/month (i'm locked in to the Google Play introductory rates)...so i'm saving money for the most part. Especially the way OKP is notorious for hyping mediocre obscure shit.
.
12676928, Also...do you REALLY own your shit? If you buying CDs still then yeah..
Posted by FLUIDJ, Tue Dec-16-14 12:26 PM
But for the most part...I don't really even have a convenient means of playing physical media any more. And I have absolutely no way to rip CDs anymore since my MacBook Pro doesn't even have an optical drive.

The coolest program is Amazon though, you buy a hard copy and get the digital copy free for a lot of their stuff....

With Google Play, you don't have to stream, if you subscribe, you can download whatever you want onto your phone and play it from there. It's just DRM'd to your device or internal microSD card.. So yeah...I got a 64GB mSD on my Note4 that's pretty much chock full of music that I "Rent" from Google Play. No need to use data to listen to it.
.
12677137, I have vinyl, CD, and cassette so yeah, I own.

Also, the few mp3's I've ever bought (and that number is extremely low... shit has to be GOOT for me to buy music that I can't get a physical copy of) I have stored across numerous CD and DVD backups.

not dissing your way of doing things, just giving the scenario why that would work for some. i honestly don't care about whether or not i 'own' the music i listen to. not really interested in trying to download it either. i just wanna find the song and play it wherever i want.

i have some emergency mp3s on my phone and the 200 or so GB of old music on my HDD on the RARE occasion i'm ever offline.

Spotify barely works unless you pay for it. You can still listen to playlist offline but thats about it.

Google Play does not require you to pay for it to work well. You can still access your music (or most of it) make your own play list and listen to the radio. If you pay the sub you have access to all the music in their database and can even download and listen to albums offline.

I use both. Spotify for the desktop and google play for mobile.

I see the song that i added to the local library on my desktop version of spotify, but I can't play them on my phone unless I download them separately to my phone.

I guess it's the equiv. to cable TV...except I actually take full advantage of all the "channels" lol...
