12672207, apparently my krazy life by YG is the best rap album of the year.
Posted by Binlahab, Thu Dec-11-14 09:56 AM
i DL'd & listened to it earlier...

i wont go so far as to say its generic...but its no statement record like GKMC

it seems like some regional shit. like im sure rtistic will be in here shortly to name drop some 5th string rapper/producer he knows who worked on it & preach abt how its moving units in the clubs in LA

but like...wheres the single? my nigga? *yawn*

its pretty vapid, nihilistic, morally bankrupt, violent kill a nigga fairy tale bullshit over 5th generation g funk bats

lyrically dude is like kurupt x suga free..which is...good, i guess. but when was the last time anybody outside LA banged either of those 2 dudes projects?

i guess im gonna need some STRONG convincing to put this over RTJ2

does it really matter?

12672303, Yeah, it's RTJ2. I'm a Gibbs fan, and Pinata was meh.
Posted by John Forte, Thu Dec-11-14 10:40 AM
12672304, yeah i don't get the hype
Posted by Ashy Achilles, Thu Dec-11-14 10:42 AM
12672312, Shit was like the hood nigga version of gkmc
Posted by illEskoBar221, Thu Dec-11-14 10:49 AM
But I can't really remember anything coming out this year
Except curren$y drive In theater and Freddie Gibbs
And the curren$y was a mixtape
12672317, the hood nigga version of GKMC was GKMC. thats the point.
Posted by Binlahab, Thu Dec-11-14 10:53 AM
this album is cool. its ok. ill accept it being ON the list

but to say its the best rap album of the year is simply a bridge too far

its not.

theres just been better projects put out this year. simple and plain

12672336, Where is this aforementioned list...
Posted by illEskoBar221, Thu Dec-11-14 11:02 AM
I need to see this list
Because I'm sure I haven't played 90% of what's on it
But I see where you're coming from
The ratchets loved it.
I heard it kinda heavy In Orlando
12672655, GKMC is not the story of hood niggas....
Posted by rorschach, Thu Dec-11-14 01:51 PM
but the story of hood niggas whooping a nigga from the hood's ass.

Kendrick is not like the YGs of the world.
12672315, Finally heard this dude's "Flow" and just wanted to die
Posted by Scarface_7, Thu Dec-11-14 10:51 AM
Its that bad. He's fucking horrible. I just dont get it at all. But I'm about to turn 34 and just listen to dancehall all day....
12672320, I don't get it either
Posted by Nick Has a Problem...Seriously, Thu Dec-11-14 10:54 AM
Also don't get how J Cole bout to have the highest first week sales of any rap album this year.
12672661, I won't even defend it
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Thu Dec-11-14 01:54 PM
I'm used to it now, and I've said it's similar to Eazy-E where he's all personality and no flow. His flow came straight from the Bay, too
12672330, um...Run The Jewels 2 anyone???
Posted by ChampD1012, Thu Dec-11-14 10:59 AM
RTJ2 is being ranked as The ALBUM OF THE YEAR regardless of genre on a site or two...
12672339, that's not how it came off to me at all:

>its pretty vapid, nihilistic, morally bankrupt, violent kill a

did you really listen, or did you just throw it on and keep hitting skip?
12672350, Miles Garvey
Posted by Musa, Thu Dec-11-14 11:10 AM
Skipp Coon
12672358, Album is trash...sounds like one long mustard beat.
Posted by Stoogie, Thu Dec-11-14 11:15 AM
Piñata is ok but a step down from his previous albums.

Game's new shit is meh too...bunch of tracks as usual but wasn't better than OKE

That new BIG KRIT is a banger tho! Dude put his foot in this one.

Ross's new shit is a disappointment too.

RTJ Part 2 is also meh...beats start sounding the same after a few songs...waaaay too busy. Killer Mike comes w/ it but I'm cool on him and EL P on every damn song. It's a real WPS album too.
12672644, yeah...loove killa mike, can't ride at all to El-P's beats

12672683, Only thing good about Hood Billionaire is Brimstone cuz
Posted by Scarface_7, Thu Dec-11-14 02:09 PM
Big Krit....

Whose Caddilactica is my favorite album of the year (rap, cuz Latasha Lee and the Blackties is my shit right now).

Was also a bit disappointed in Run the Jewels 2, didnt feel like the first and I can evolve with a group or whatever but it really is rather MEH. Great to hear Zack de la Rocha but overall, dare I say, over hyped?

Scarface's Deeply Rooted is dropping in February though, and I really am looking forward to that disc!
12672694, Yeah Brimstone is the standout by far
Posted by Stoogie, Thu Dec-11-14 02:14 PM
I heard a few snippets of the Scarface and I'm amped.

12672650, RE: apparently Mick Jenkins - The Waters is the best rap album of the year.
Posted by bentagain, Thu Dec-11-14 01:48 PM
I know it's a 'mixtape', but still, I keeps it in rotation
12672746, def best tape of the year
Posted by Government Name, Thu Dec-11-14 02:44 PM
12672657, Don't be mad at my life though cuh.

Here's how I saw it.

I've always been a fan of YG as a hood club banger maker, but never saw him crossing over. In late 2012, many of us were leaning toward Problem...he had more polish and commercial appeal, waaaaay more articulate, can actually rap-rap, had finally learned to make club bangers, and was making good connects. Welcome 2 Mollywood had everyone placing money in his stock instead of YG.

Then, 2013 happened. And...2014 happened. YG always had decent mix tapes for the hoodlums and youngsters, but absolutely NO ONE had faith in his album being anything better than a 6.5/10...we expected a few local/regional bangers, and some filler.

I heard the album, and said............how the fuck he actually make a good album? And yep, I'ma name drop because I got names to drop...but seeing Terrace, Mustard, and Chordz on one project..it all made sense. And folks who work with YG telling me how dope he is as an artist, and even that he's the reason Mustard learned to make dope beats...it all made sense.

So now, I'm hearing album of the year talk, and....I mean, I'm not gonna say it's that good. But it surely exceeded everyone's expectations.

As far as comparisons to GKMC, or it being the "hood nigga's version"...this is what it is...it's basically an album from the view of one of Kendrick's homies that rides in the car with him throughout GKMC. Kendrick's view is more of the "I'm innocent, but still kinda falling into the peer pressure" while YG is the one who is the negative peer pressure, acting up and leading the dirt that's done.
12672679, this is your lane on OKP, lil daddy. you fill it well
Posted by Binlahab, Thu Dec-11-14 02:08 PM
this shit had ZERO chance of you not replying. i think you got OKP alerts set up so if anyone makes a "cali" "rap" or "club" associated reply...you get paged

& thats ok.

12672686, I actually respond to way more than y'all give me credit for
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Thu Dec-11-14 02:10 PM
But these are the only ones y'all notice...L.A. rappers, gangs, and anything DJ related.
12672707, people are dumb, shallow & superficial, champ. & we is people.
Posted by Binlahab, Thu Dec-11-14 02:23 PM
theres worse lanes to be known for. you could be case one for example #yikes
