Gov. Cuomo, Jay Z talk justice reforms in NYC

Rap mogul Jay Z had an audience Wednesday with Gov. Andrew Cuomo—or did Cuomo have an audience with Jay Z?—as the two discussed potential changes to the criminal justice system, according to a Cuomo spokeswoman.

The meeting came a week after a Staten Island grand jury chose not to indict a white New York City police officer in the death of Eric Garner, a 43-year-old who was placed in a chokehold-like maneuver that was captured on video.

“Governor Cuomo and Shawn ‘JAY Z’ Carter had a productive conversation about doing a top to bottom review of the Criminal Justice system and how we can all work together to pass a reform package that ensures equality in the eyes of the law,” Cuomo Communications Director Melissa DeRosa said in a statement.

The meeting was first reported by the Daily Kos.

Cuomo has called for a “soup to nuts” review of the state’s police standards and grand jury policies, and has signaled it will be a major topic of conversation once the state Legislature returns to the Capitol for its regular session in June.

don't even say legal weed b/c it's a clusterfuck trying to figure out how that's going to work and he only legalized edibles for medical use

been researching how to become a "caregiver" and every.single.time I have attempted to finish reading the guidelines, I just get a headache.

i know a lawyer who's basically trying to learn/navigate it out here for clients/friends in Colorado and Washington and Cali that want to expand out here once NY gets their shit together

this is really all set up for a large scale business, not so much someone enterprising and wanting to do a small medical edible thing. unless they allow you to set up as a manufacturer which again, they haven't figured out. the last i heard they were considering allowing weed to be imported from other states b/c they weren't sure how growing would work here.

it might benefit you to find other folks trying to get in on the action then finding a lawyer or link w/ an NY advocacy group who can break down the law and give you progress reports on how the structure is being set up

Talking about I met with Cuomo and trust him and he says that he's going to do an executive order to assign a special prosecutor so you know that he's going to actually do that.

The reporter afterwards says, Cuomo is talking with advisors from all over to determine what the next steps will be.
