12669693, Mark Wahlberg wants Marky Mark pardoned..

So shall we forgive & forget or nah??

http://www.bostonherald.com/inside_track/celebrity_news/2014/12/mark_wahlberg_seeks_pardon_for_1988_assault_conviction

Dorchester-born actor Mark Walhberg is asking the state to wipe a 25-year-old assault case from his record.

Wahlberg was sentenced in 1988 and served three months in jail, according to his petition, filed with the state on Nov. 26. The Hollywood star says his “past convictions still legally impact me to this day,” but notes he has spoken openly about his troubled youth.

“The more complex answer is that receiving a pardon would be a formal recognition that I am not the same person that I was on the night of April 8, 1988,” Wahlberg wrote. “My hope is that, if I receive a pardon, troubled youths will see this as an inspiration and motivation that they too can turn their lives around and be formally accepted back into society.

“It would also be an important capstone to the lessons that I try to teach my own children on a daily basis,” he added.

Wahlberg, whose list of Hollywood titles includes, “Ted,” “The Fighter” and “The Departed,” joins a growing list of those hoping to wipe the slate clean. The state’s advisory board of pardons is still sorting through more than 250 petitions for commutations, or requests to shorten a jail sentence, and more than 70 pardons, according to the office.

Gov. Deval Patrick has already recommended four people for pardon and one commutation in recent months, his first during his two terms.

The board has not yet voted on whether to recommend Wahlberg for a pardon.

http://thoughtcatalog.com/wayne-wax/2014/05/an-interview-with-the-asian-man-whom-mark-wahlberg-horribly-disfigured/

When Marky Mark was fifteen, he had civil actions placed against him for hurling rocks at black people while screaming racial slurs at them. One year later, in a single day, he knocked Thahn Lam—a middle-aged man of Vietnamese descent—unconscious with a stick while calling him “Vietnam fucking shit” (assumedly he brushed up his wordplay skills in the Funky Bunch) and, on that same evening, punched Hoa Trinh—again several years his senior—in the eye, permanently blinding him. After being brought to the scene on the first charge, Wahlberg told officers, “You don’t have to let him identify me, I’ll tell you now that’s the motherfucker whose head I split open” and apparently made several remarks regarding “gooks” and “slant-eyed gooks” during police proceedings. For his crimes he spent 45 days in a correctional facility.

Yeah Boston so I get where it comes from, but nah-- that's some kind of serious stuff. I think forgive, but don't forget. When you add to it that the start to what made him who and what he is is black music then he owes a debt and his record is part of the price.

I heard his record is keeping him from doing projects in Boston. So this is about money. Wouldnt those crimes be classified as hate crimes today? Nope keep them on his record.
12669744, It's keeping him from owning a restaurant with a liquor license in Cali
Posted by John Forte, Mon Dec-08-14 05:03 PM
12669745, It's in regards to him
Posted by Numba_33, Mon Dec-08-14 05:05 PM
purchasing bars/restaurants from what I read this weekend, so it is about potential dollars for him and not in order to reinvent himself or whatever he said. Given the legal system in this country, I'm surprised that he hasn't been able to throw money to the proper folks to solve his problems though.
12669870, i figured that's what this was about
Posted by gumz, Mon Dec-08-14 08:49 PM
12669749, Seems kinda shitty to keep a 16 year old's crimes on record, but...
Posted by Ryan M, Mon Dec-08-14 05:07 PM
...also seems kinda shitty to only serve 45 days for something like that too.

Life's unfair, Marky Mark. Deal with it.
12669778, nah...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Mon Dec-08-14 05:49 PM
....time & maturity has been extremely beneficial to wahlberg, but i don't like the idea of expunging the record of anyone convicted an obvious hate crime.

a better lesson to be learned by troubled youth is that you WILL be held accountable for your own actions (and that could follow you for the rest of your life). being young & immature doesn't grant you a pass. people need to recognize that there are certain things apologies and success won't cover.

12669796, that old Viet guy ain't getting his eye back
Posted by Mynoriti, Mon Dec-08-14 06:35 PM
and Whalberg ain't exactly suffering. he's cleaned up his act, and done more than well for himself. if his punishment is he can't have everything he wants. tough shit.
12669797, Pardoned him when that man gets his eye sight back
Posted by Sarah_Bellum, Mon Dec-08-14 06:35 PM
When asked if he apologized to the Asian man he blinded during his hate crime, he said he did, during sentencing but hasn't reach out to him at all since.
So dude blinded a man, wants to be pardoned but never sought out the person he committed a crime against to make restitution or just plain apologize except when it was beneficial to him to get a light sentence. He's only doing it now so he can own a bar.
Naw... Sorry holms, believe you we don't. More people you need.

12669820, why the fuck would he ever willingly bring this up?
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Mon Dec-08-14 07:20 PM
his PR team is dumb for allowing that.
12669824, he also chased a group of black kids and threw rocks at them

Fuck him.
12669837, Fuck him. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance if he showed remorse
Posted by gusto, Mon Dec-08-14 07:41 PM
But he hasnt. Fuck him. He had the means to make amends, and never chose to do so. Until it fucked with his money. Fuck him.
It also prevents him from carrying a gun in certain states.
12669856, If I saw more proof of repentance, I'd be 100% all for it.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Dec-08-14 08:22 PM
If he'd done everything he could to make that guy's life better, and he brought that to the board hearing, then absolutely. Has he paid for all of this guy's eye-related medical treatment? I haven't heard anything to suggest he has. Has he worked hard to support charity groups that assist Asian-Americans in need or Asian-American victims of hate crimes? I haven't heard anything to suggest he has. In which case, it is what it is.

I'm all for forgiving kids in instances of obvious adult repentance. Kids fuck up in terrible ways all the time, and kids do contrary to popular belief often change as a result of their fuck ups. I just don't see the evidence of obvious repentance here.
12669860, He said he hasn't felt the need to reach out to the Vietnamese dude
Posted by AFKAP_of_Darkness, Mon Dec-08-14 08:26 PM
because he doesn't feel guilty anymore.

!!!
12670902, his troubled racist past comes up once every couple of years
Posted by RobOne4, Tue Dec-09-14 06:05 PM
when it does it will get picked up by blogs and stuff. Last time it made its rounds he was asked about it and that was his answer. Something like I am not the same person anymore and I have changed so I dont feel like I am guilty and have no need to apologize.
12671457, True repentance would let the crime stay on its record
Posted by Ted Gee Seal, Wed Dec-10-14 01:05 PM
It would wear it as a reminder to itself and a caution to others. It would wear all the consequences as less than the minimum of justice given how unimpeded his success has been as a result

Instead he's crying because he doesn't have an extra cherry on top of the banana kaboom that is his life.

12669859, what lesson for the troubled youths who won't be pardoned?
Posted by SoWhat, Mon Dec-08-14 08:24 PM
fuck that.

12669894, dont you think the bigger lesson is what is happening now
Posted by RobOne4, Mon Dec-08-14 09:26 PM
he is a huge success and has completely turned his life around. But his mistakes as a youth are still keeping him from doing things he wants to do. That is a lesson right there.
12669990, ^THIS

Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Tue Dec-09-14 03:25 AM
This is some of the stupid ass move I've seen, you done served a jail sentence became a rapper, went around the world touring, then became an actor/movie star, and making millions and he wants to make his record squeaky clean for what, it's more to this story than being reported, he wants something but has to get his record clean to get it but what is it?

12669977, Hmm...what could it be?

Right now, he's a living example of making shitty choices as a youth, then being unrepentant later in life. And besides...doesn't feel guilty any more, he says? Isn't that bordering on some kind of dissociative disorder?
