12669064, ok I just saw belly for the first time and
Posted by godleeluv, Sun Dec-07-14 09:39 PM
I hate the ending. I mean, did buns go to jail? How did Nas get to Africa with gunshot wounds? Did Keisha go to jail for killing method man?

So many unanswered questions. But I'm proud that I actually watched it all the way thru. I've tried watching it before but couldn't get past dmx letting the underage girl give him head in the car while he talked to his gf on the phone.

I don't know how to feel right now.

12669118, NO THE FUCK THERE ISN'T!!!
Posted by Adwhizz, Mon Dec-08-14 12:48 AM
At least in my mind there isn't

While clearly with flaws, Belly is still one of my favorite movies ever. Like shit is damn near Sweet Sweetback's Baddassss Song caliber.
12669801, nvm. wtf was that shit?

I got till like 20 min and gave up on finding the answers I was seeking.

12669106, I watched it again recently...

Hype is an artist. The film was shot beautifully and he made some bold choices with lighting and the camera; however, the script was God-awful. It was just a whole bunch of random scenes/vignettes stitched together. In an earlier post on this subject, someone said that DMX getting approached by the agent to infiltrate The Reverend's group should have happened around 25 minutes in. I couldn't agree more. A movie about that would have been way more compelling.

Also, aside from DMX, Method Man, and Caine from Menace...nobody in that movie could act for shit.
12669107, The lighting and all that feel like a rip from Players Club to me
Posted by Doronmonkflake, Sun Dec-07-14 11:39 PM
Like I understand Hype was doin that kinda stuff in his videos already, but the last club scene in Players Club and the first club scene in Belly look like the same movie.
12669126, Stop.

Buns couldn't gone to jail because he converted to the church. Nas more than likely got first aid and left. Of course Keisha went to jail.

That script was cut something fierce according to an interview someone else posted.
12669153, Hands down, T Boz is the worst actor I've ever seen.

The scene where Nas is talking to the young kid on the bench is from One Love

We was chillin' on these benches where he pumped his loose cracks
I took an l when he passed it, this little bastard
Keeps me blasted he starts talking mad shit
I had to school him, told him don't let niggas fool him
12669267, The original ending they wanted to use was pretty ridiculous
Posted by micMajestic, Mon Dec-08-14 10:47 AM
the plane to Africa was supposed to explode because of something to do with the Y2K glitch. I'm a Nas stan, but since he was a co-writer of the movie I'm going to have to assume that Y2k glitch nonsense was his idea. He seems like one of those paranoid types that would buy into all that.
So in any case, the ending was a bit thrown together because the studio wouldn't let them use the original one.

13306670, I've Only Seen Like The First 10 Minutes Of That Movie
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Tue Jan-15-19 03:08 AM
Over the years, I keep seeing people saying how much they love it, but it's never peeked my interest enough to want to see it again.

I always tell people "I don't watch urban movies" but I do but not much, I've seen all the 80's to very early 90's ones, but after that I've got selective on what I watch, I've seen four Tyler Perry movies (both Madea's Boos, Family That Prays, & Madea Goes To Jail), the last Big Mama's House, The Show, Rhyme & Reason, Straight Outta Compton, & I'm Bout It Bout It, that's it, only seen maybe 20 minutes of the first Friday, 10 minutes of Belly, watch bits of Eddie Murphy's Nutty Professor, bits and Pieces of Drumline, and I think that's about it.

13306681, I feel like i'm offended by your reply for some reason lol....

>Or too many stereotypes?

Egg-Zack-Lee, it seems like those movies pigeon hold the writing to the point it's so predictable to where I just get bored, it's like if I watched a Lifetime/Hallmark movie, I already know the plot, story, & ending before the movie starts.

When some black actors get real popular, most go outside the gangster, thief, bank robber, hood rat, wannabe pimp, street preacher, weed smoker hanging on the corner, drug dealer, super sexy & body builder horny guy, girl chaser, type roles, but not trying to go corny on some black person in a hood horror movie though, more like how Samuel Jackson, Denzel Washington, Eddie Murphy, Laurence Fishburne, Wesley Snipes, Jamie Foxx, Louis Gossett Jr., Common, etc. they now do serious to lighthearted roles but not just the urban stereotype characters though.

The films they chose to act in has good content with a decent to great plot, not just "hey just fool around on camera" or the "let's make a movie about how dangerous it is in the hood" movie with no depth of characters.

Yes it's incomplete/confusing as fuck
Nas and T-Boz might be the worst actors ever

But just the pure style, and performances from DMX/Ox/Method Man and others make this a personal fave
