12668980, women: Not Wanting Kids Is Entirely Normal
Posted by akon, Sun Dec-07-14 03:15 PM
mainly posting cause i thought the first couple of paragraphs were hilarious
----
In 2008, Nebraska decriminalized child abandonment. The move was part of a "safe haven" law designed to address increased rates of infanticide in the state. Like other safe haven laws, parents in Nebraska who felt unprepared to care for their babies could drop them off at a designated location without fear of arrest and prosecution. But legislators made a major logistical error: They failed to implement an age limitation for dropped-off children.

Within just weeks of the law passing, parents started dropping off their kids. But here's the rub: None of them were infants. A couple of months in, 36 children had been left in state hospitals and police stations. Twenty-two of the children were over 13 years old. A 51-year-old grandmother dropped off a 12-year-old boy. One father dropped off his entire family -- nine children from ages one to 17. Others drove from neighboring states to drop off their children once they heard that they could abandon them without repercussion.

The Nebraska state government, realizing the tremendous mistake it had made, held a special session of the legislature to rewrite the law in order to add an age limitation. Governor Dave Heineman said the change would "put the focus back on the original intent of these laws, which is saving newborn babies and exempting a parent from prosecution for child abandonment. It should also prevent those outside the state from bringing their children to Nebraska in an attempt to secure services."

On November 21, 2008, the last day that the safe haven law was in effect for children of all ages, a mother from Yolo County, California, drove over 1,200 miles to the Kimball County Hospital in Nebraska where she left her 14-year-old son.

i mean technically she cant disown you before the drop off, right
i'd have refused to cross the border into nebraska

and what was up with the father who dropped off 9 kids? (1yr - 17yrs old?)
12668990, i shouldnt laugh but i did

12669033, if there were a drop-off option, i wouldnt hesitate to have kids
Posted by akon, Sun Dec-07-14 07:03 PM
but right now? when i think of a minimum of 20yrs?
and nowadays the kids dont even move out?

gives me pause
12669031, It's unnatural IMO
Posted by OrangeandBlue, Sun Dec-07-14 06:55 PM
12669037, yep
Posted by atruhead, Sun Dec-07-14 07:27 PM
someone will say "what about women who cant have kids, lesbians or women who feel like they were born men?"

but I agree with you
12669041, this is silly
Posted by akon, Sun Dec-07-14 07:58 PM
>someone will say "what about women who cant have kids,
>lesbians or women who feel like they were born men?"

im sure some of these women want to have kids- and can have kids (and end up having them - even among transgendered women. )
you also have women who cannot have kids but do want to have kids
but this really has nothing to do with anything in this post.

we are talking about an increasing number of women who do not want to have kids
there's nothing here about natural and unnatural, its all about making informed choice

y'all can take your value judgements elsewhere.
12669043, wanting to produce offspring is natural.
Posted by atruhead, Sun Dec-07-14 08:04 PM
12669045, in *your* world maybe
Posted by akon, Sun Dec-07-14 08:06 PM
its not true for everyone
12669056, I forgot Im on OKP, my bad.
Posted by atruhead, Sun Dec-07-14 09:00 PM
mind you I didnt say there was anything wrong with not having kids, but okay *wanting* to have kids isnt natural anymore let you tell it
12669058, i dont even know what this sentence means
Posted by akon, Sun Dec-07-14 09:18 PM
>mind you I didnt say there was anything wrong with not having
>kids, but okay *wanting* to have kids isnt natural anymore let
>you tell it

who is talking about wanting to have kids being unnatural?
i believe i said not wanting to have kids is as natural as wanting to have kids- because these are decisions one makes.
y'all the ones out here trying to put value judgements to a simple statement - and to imply that there's only one way or the unnatural way
its 2014, women have choice nowadays- its a good thing.

and i dont understand the 'i forget im on okp' sentence either. maybe you could explain.

>who is talking about wanting to have kids being unnatural?

reply 12.

>i believe i said not wanting to have kids is as natural as
>wanting to have kids- because these are decisions one makes.

okay and we clearly disagree

>y'all the ones out here trying to put value judgements to a
>simple statement - and to imply that there's only one way or
>the unnatural way

a value judgment to me is "this is bad/wrong" or "this is good/right"
saying that most (heterosexual) people of a certain age want to have kids one day, that's just my optimistic outlook on life

>its 2014, women have choice nowadays- its a good thing.

yay, but where did I say it was bad for a woman to choose to not have kids?

>and i dont understand the 'i forget im on okp' sentence
>either. maybe you could explain.

if you need it explained...

12669063, i wish i had time to engage in semantics.
Posted by akon, Sun Dec-07-14 09:35 PM
fortunately i dont.

12669066, in a world where women out number men
Posted by SHAstayhighalways, Sun Dec-07-14 09:39 PM
it is natural that many of them have no desire to reproduce
its population control
a lotta kids born to parents who aint really want them
but had them bc its "natural" and many children have suffered bc of it
i wish more ppl listened to that lil voice that says "nah chill babies will fuck up my whole groove"
12669077, i dont even know how we got here... i was looking for some funnies
Posted by akon, Sun Dec-07-14 10:12 PM
anyway,
i was watching this ugandan comedian this morning, anne kasiime (she's getting really big, even my mom put in plug for her)
this hilarious skit where her husband is complaining about the # of kids they have
basically saying, look, we got 9, maybe its time to stop, school fees... blabla
and she's like, wait, with your genes and my genes....
i need to increase my chances of getting a quality child
so... im not going to stop until i have an obama.

i can just imagine a situation where like 9 kids later, one is like, wtf, *drops off kids at kiddropoffzone

i think its funny,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSpNA4WVmVk

*apart from some fuckupness of some aspects of the skit
12669038, Dude that dropped off 9 kids is a fucking coward..
Posted by Kira, Sun Dec-07-14 07:31 PM
Basically, it was cool to smash but taking care of the kids was too much. HE DID THE SHIT 9 TIMES THO then decided he didn't want them. That's borderline souless to dropoff 9 kids that you fostered. He's telling them it's time for a family vacation while they sleep in the car not knowing their lives will be permanently altered.

Get yourself a vasectomy if you want to smash without the risk of children.
12669042, its almost like okayplayers dont have a sense of humour anymore :o(

12669075, One of the lowest most worthless actions a human being can take imo
Posted by Binlahab, Sun Dec-07-14 10:01 PM
Child rape is the worst, child murder is 2nd, child abandonment is 3rd

Disgusting worthless human beings. There's no excuse. None. Idgaf.

does it really matter?
