12668746, HBO's Newsroom and Aaron Sorkin shows (spoiler Alert)

I'm sure the continuous banter is supposed to come off as intelligent and witty but all these characters come off as self righteous assholes or dumbasses.

And some of the major storylines are just dumb esp this season. Like house does a multibillion dollar company miss a hostile takeover bid like that?

12668753, Nope season is great.

12668771, ACN couldn't raise $4 Billion but some how Sloan can?
Posted by OrangeandBlue, Sat Dec-06-14 10:01 PM
Or at least thinks she could?

She's a News anchor! How's that even plausible?! Cos she has a bloomberg terminal .... WTF is she just getting that btw?

There is no passion whatsoever btw Will and Mackenzie or any other copule. They rant at each other from unrealistic pedestals.
12668774, No she wasn't

but she knew someone who could. That's her m.o. and background so it make sense.
12668754, Sorkin's style is grating as fuck to me
Posted by Mynoriti, Sat Dec-06-14 09:08 PM
i got through one and a half seasons of West Wing and the first season of Newsroom. Maybe if I was more into theatre, i could appreciate his steez more, but I'm pretty sure it's just not for me.
12668765, West Wing is dope but I couldnt get into the Newsroom

first 4 seasons of The West Wing are some of the best TV ever.

12668768, All his characters speak with the same voice

(the analog in the comics world is Brian Bendis, who is an avowed Sorkin fan)

The biggest problem with The Newsroom is probably the lack of any true conflict or character complexity, in lieu of characters just making over-articulate, declarative speeches.

That being said... I still enjoy the show. After a fashion.
12668769, I hate all of that forced overwrought garbage

Give me The Flash anyday fuck yall
12668773, The Newsroom is Sports Night 2.0
Posted by j0510, Sat Dec-06-14 10:08 PM
Charlie = Issac
MacKenzie = Dana
Will = Casey
Don = Dan
Jim = Jeremy
Maggie = Natalie
Sloan = Rebecca
12668776, Or as Keith Olbermann has described the show:
Posted by AFKAP_of_Darkness, Sat Dec-06-14 10:19 PM
"Aaron Sorkin's second televison series about my life."
12668777, Yeah, I remember when Sports Night came out both Olbermann and
Posted by j0510, Sat Dec-06-14 10:26 PM
Dan Patrick were mad.

That's why I'm hating on the darkness like Paula Deen

12668981, I looooooove this show.

Yes the writing/dialogue is self-righteous and uber left-leaning, but it's incredibly good. And the casting/performances are note perfect.
12669007, I think most of the above criticisms are fair
Posted by woe.is.me., Sun Dec-07-14 05:02 PM
but i still enjoy the show.
it's smart, and very relevant.
that's not something many shows can objectively brag about.
12669020, made it through half of season one and detested that shit
Posted by kayru99, Sun Dec-07-14 06:05 PM
baby boomer nostalgia is some outright bullshit, and I ain't the audience for it
12669062, After Season 2 of Newsroom I couldn't take anymore
Posted by Starks dunked on Bulls, Sun Dec-07-14 09:32 PM
Sorkin is good in small doses.
12669087, Hate-watched S1 and 2, into this season
Posted by KingMonte, Sun Dec-07-14 10:36 PM
This season would make me watch S4 if there were one.
Don's still a dick though.
12669115, I believe he inspired some of Cabin in the Woods

Not the least of which bein that opening scene with Bradley Whitford havin a long self important monologue down a hall behind a dollied camera.

Speaking of which, I would like to see some prequels of that movie. Other times the Old Gods nearly destroyed the world and the evil machinations of the Ozymandian well-meaning saved us all with a 5-head sacrifice.

They could culminate with the first instance.
