12668349, I'm calling it....this is the year of the Yonce.
Posted by rorschach, Fri Dec-05-14 02:43 PM
As far as mainstream albums go....that was the best IMO. But I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't win either. It's the Grammys.
---------------------------------------

---------------------------------------
12668353, wait, how can it be the year of the Yonce?
Posted by PROMO, Fri Dec-05-14 02:47 PM

12668367, Record Of The Year/Song of the Year/Best New Artist: All white
Posted by Melanism, Fri Dec-05-14 02:56 PM
12668371, just a reflection of the white-washing of mainstream music.
Posted by PROMO, Fri Dec-05-14 02:59 PM
i mean, i can't really think of a new black artist whom i'd considere "mainstream" enough to get recognized for a best new artist.
12668375, what black folk coulda got noms
Posted by Geah, Fri Dec-05-14 03:05 PM

I don't remember what happened at the Grammys but I think he lost out to the song from "Frozen" at the Oscars.
12668437, it was submitted this year as the live version.
Posted by rambunctious, Fri Dec-05-14 03:46 PM

Best Rap Album

Iggy Azalea, "The New Classic"
Childish Gambino, "Because the Internet"
Common, "Nobody's Smiling"
Eminem, "The Marshall Mathers LP 2"
Schoolboy Q, "Oxymoron"
Wiz Khalifa, "Blacc Hollywood"

Best Rap Performance

Childish Gambino (Donald Glover), "3005"
Drake, "0 to 100/The Catch Up"
Eminem, "Rap God"
Kendrick Lamar, "i"
Lecrae, "All I Need Is You"

Kendrick has an outside shot to get his first Grammy...and I do mean outside shot...

I hope Eminem wins Best Rap Album...deep down I want Common to do it...but I DONT want Iggy winning it...

12668440, all those album are less than great.
Posted by PROMO, Fri Dec-05-14 03:49 PM
Schoolboy Q is the best outta those and it was disappointing.

and we KNOW he ain't winning.

12668442, I love how since Common hooked up with Kanye
Posted by Oak27, Fri Dec-05-14 03:53 PM
every one of his albums has gotten a Grammy nom for Rap AOTY. He's become their token conscious rapper to nominate when possible.
12668544, Im a little surprised The Roots didn't
Posted by go mack, Fri Dec-05-14 07:25 PM
get a nom..

Eminem will prob win it, he won for the shittier Recovery didn't he?
12668475, To be fair album wise, Rap had a horrible year
Posted by Heinz, Fri Dec-05-14 04:23 PM
Think about what is worthy to replace those shitty albums other than Q and Iggy (who by sure numbers deserves to be there). Maybe YG. Maybe Gibbs/Madlib (for critical acclaim reasons).

What about RUN THE JEWELZ.. How special would that have been.
12668519, Meh. Its a good album
Posted by Heinz, Fri Dec-05-14 05:53 PM
and would be very cool to have nominated but it would be also by default because of lack of good album and its critically acclaimed.

12668474, nah Sam Smith is clearly gonna win
Posted by Heinz, Fri Dec-05-14 04:21 PM
She was nominated because it did numbers and had big singles. But Sam had that (even bigger) plus its a great body of work.

12668549, I'm always so confused how certain things get on the radar...
Posted by PROMO, Fri Dec-05-14 07:42 PM
of the Grammy voters and other stuff doesn't.

Are the Grammys dependent on your label putting you up for consideration?

Like, how did Bernhoft get on their radar for Best R&B album (which I'm fine with...Come Around was one of my favorite songs of the year) but there's so many better electronic/dance albums out there than the ones they nominated that likely weren't on the radar.

I hope Faded by Zhu wins best Electronic song at least.

Also, I hate how R&B has been seperated in to R&B like Robert Glasper and then Urban like Beyonce, etc.
12668550, Quadron? Alice Smith?
Posted by Mori, Fri Dec-05-14 07:49 PM

And I don't know who Ed Sheeran is....but I've heard his name mentioned throughout the year.
