if I was scared to disappoint them, by refusing to buy them shit they don't need. Especially when I have more than a valid reason for doing it. We really need to do better or we kinda don't need to be out in the streets marching and rallying and crying and shit.

Maybe I sit them down and explain it to them, then show them a picture of Mike Brown's lifeless body laying in the middle of the street.

Maybe I show them the video of the mentally ill dude getting shot, and let them know that cops would rather kill you than arrest you.

I don't need them to understand it 100%. They're not going to. Most grown folks don't understand the correlation between Mike Brown getting killed and black people having no real economic power, so I'm not going to wait for my kids to sign off before I try and make a move in their favor.
