I am all about new blood. And the problems you are describing are real. I don't disagree. The direction that I saw this conversation going was, "hey, WE, okayplayer, can organize an effective national boycott on CHRISTMAS. In four months." I didn't see anything about, "my organization can help this way," etc. etc. Effective organized efforts take longer than that and gobs of hard work, even with the support of some existing organizations, and even in the age of social media. I feel like people are setting themselves up for disappointment with these expectations.

I'm not encouraging people to not get involved--far from it. I'm just saying, just from my personal experience, one step at a time. Start by researching what's there locally and what it takes to organize effectively.

I don't know the specific national organizations on police brutality. My work has been around affordable housing and bringing capital into underserved communities. I am hoping to connect soon with the folks that did the vigil here in DC, because it seemed like they were interested in doing grassroots stuff in sync with other local efforts, and they seemed like they were prepared to build power, and that piqued my interest. They might not want my help, or they might not hold up, but I thought their starting point was promising. But I haven't been involved yet, so I'm getting there too.
