Not true there are plenty of people with children and other responsibilities that have followed their passion, we all have to work, if you can work doing something you love all the better, that said yes its al elusive dream for most.

The key is to start and establish yourself before you have kids, because afterwards it's much much harder

12674018, Ehh- I disagree fam

your passion could be what gets u out of bed in the morning. It could be what keeps you focused and fulfilled. Writing is my passion. And in that respect I am living it as I write this book. Now surely I have a job and all that, but living is not the work-home-work-home cycle. Living is what is encased in the moments between that mundane shit. And in that living, lies my passions. IMHO.

I need to figure out what it is first because I have no clue
12508342, nope...happy just living life and doing what i do
Posted by tomjohn29, Sun Jul-13-14 11:36 AM
passion is for those with singular vision
i have too much stuff that i love to do to have a true passion
12508343, RE: nope...happy just living life and doing what i do
Posted by Deacon Blues, Sun Jul-13-14 11:42 AM
I don't really see the conflict, for me passion is just about really caring about what you do, I'm not talking about some grand vision like being a pro ball player, nor do I think it has to be exclusive, it could be being a police officer, as long as the job gives you happiness/satisfaction and you are committed to getting better everyday
12508360, Following as in: hopes of being financially rewarded from it or
Posted by vee-lover, Sun Jul-13-14 12:43 PM
something you discovered you love doing and do it solely because it gives you a sense of fulfillment?

The answer to both question as it applies to me is yes but I don't think a person's passion shouldn't be limited to a singular thing because we can have many things we're passionate abt but responsibilities/circumstances/ immediate needs can prevent us from pursuing those passions.

Yes
12508375, Because they don't see their passion benefitting them financially is

I just can't find the motivation to write reviews any more, and when I think I do I easily get distracted by something else. I can't sit and listen to a full project as intently as I could even 7 months ago. It's a bummer since the link in my sig becomes more useless by the month as a result but I'm proud of what I did accomplish and the things I did write for PopMatters. Hopefully I can get back on the saddle over the next two weeks when my girlfriend will be out of town for most of it.

I still think a few of the reviews I wrote pro bono for that site were better than anything professionally penned, and I can take pride in that for now until I figure out my next move.

Posted by MizClayton, Sun Jul-13-14 07:06 PM
there are many things I like to do, and can be content with doing for money

for me, work always feels like work no matter what. if there is a deadline, it feels like work.

my fulfillment comes from living life (spending time with family and friends, giving to those around me, traveling, not doing shit, experiencing nature, etc.)

i don't so much love to travel as much as i like the freedom to get up and go where i want when i want and that's where my life is now. but i'm on the path to upping my hustle to steer my current career in a better direction so i can do more traveling, study history, and race motorcyles. those are pretty much the only things i want to do for the rest of my life.
12508513, I am, but I think doing so is overvalued.

12508517, My individual passions shifted to those two lil legs you see in my avy.
Posted by deejboram, Sun Jul-13-14 10:03 PM
Like I feel like I'm not growing in some type of (selfish/self-centered) way
but I am growing as a husband and a father
and that's all that matters
My job/career is becoming less "fun" and more "all about the benjamins"
I really only do it because it is lucrative and provides a comfortable life for my wife and child(ren).

my passions were all self-centered in nature anyway
so, to be able to live my life for someone else is a beautiful thing
very beautiful

I'd like to be an independent personal trainer. The path is there. I know what I need to do. I think I could be very successful.

I've a home to maintain. I figure I will take the steps to get myself in the best shape of my life and get certified.

It'll come. I'm not worried about it.

I've always had a passion for working with students to help provide equal access to resources. Before that manifested itself with tutoring, college prep, etc. Now I work in international education providing middle-school students around the world with 21st century skills (empathy, cross-cultural communication, ed tech, etc.) & university students with professional development.

I enjoy the work I'm doing, I get to manage some awesome university kids, & I get to travel the world leading trainings at our sites.

BUT, I still do have the itch to continue doing music related stuff. I hosted a radio show for 5 years, helped book shows/press, & generally handled behind the scenes music stuff. I know I could make time to dabble, but I've always had problems not jumping fully into things & I feel like for now at least, I need to keep making headway in what I'm doing.

12509769, I've pretty much been pursuing my passion my whole life
Posted by TheStandard, Mon Jul-14-14 03:49 PM
I've been DJing since I've been 16-17....I'm 28 now....I haven't focused on my production/music passion for a while but I'm supposed to work on producing this album but I've been completely booked up DJing this summer so I haven't been able to lock in like I want to. I've gotten far but I'm really not where I want to be. It's tough, I feel like I'm changing and many of the things I've wanted just didn't work out or I've found out I don't want them anymore...... I do have some other passions that I'm currently pursuing tho as well as djing.

I can't lie, I'm more into money than I ever was.....where as back in the day it was just the art. When your passion becomes your job it changes it in ways most people don't understand. When people say if you do something you love you'll never work a day in your life....that's bullshit. You'll work hard.....and when it's your job you kinda start looking at the thing you love in the same way you would a regular job.....How much are you getting paid? the Benefits, etc.
12509796, Absolutely.

I'm working on finding a route to all three.

I just had an interview for the consulting through Sparkhire for a certain southern IT company located in the DMV area. I'm kinda hesitant to move to VA but will more than willingly do it for the price. If the paying then I'm there. My only issue is letting me travel around the country doing live shit is my goal.
