i felt it was about a wealthy black family that struggles with blackness when surrounded by nonblackness.
i didnt feel like they were all trying to escape or embrace blackness, but moreso just dealing with it.
i said it pushed the envelope bc i felt like there was more inside stuff than i expected...such as "africans dont even like us" and the rites of passage ceremony. this is shit that mostly only black ppl would relate to and it made the show seem somewhat unapologetic.
