-ship made a mayday call, which allowed authorities to stop traffic over the bridge, preventing more casualties
- although there were preventative devices in the water, the angle at which the ship approached played a major role. If it was more of a straight on hit, the ship may have been stopped.
If I remember correctly, they have/had escort services for that bridge due to drivers being afraid to cross.
Real talk, I feel bad for the loss of life AND the crew on that ship. I cannot fathom what it’s like to be part of such of horrible situation.
