The disconnect for me is this: the OKP article said (paraphrasing) "turns out the label was right." But who's to know ? That is to say, how can we know for sure that the Scott version wouldn't have been *JUST AS HUGE* had the label decided to just put the same resources behind it that they did the Badu version ?

Fuck the label. Shit was fucked up.

As someone above already said, I'm glad we have both versions with both these incredible singers. But no, the label was not right, IMO.
