Understanding what it was and, more to the point, what it wasn't, isn't an actual stance on his statement. I don't really see anyone saying it's okay or acceptable.

It's an awful thing to say, not funny, definitively NOT presidential and further exemplifies just how ill-suited he is for the job.

Ideally this causes more of the GOP and some of his less fervent supporters to back further away from him, but who knows. He's been seemingly invincible thus far and it's hard to predict how this will impact things going forward.
